Hospital Management System Using Java

2. Introduction & Objective


The Hospital Management System (HMS) aims to streamline the process of managing
hospital operations such as patient registration, appointment scheduling, billing, and
inventory management. The primary objective of the project is to create a user-friendly
system to manage all the activities in a hospital environment effectively.

3. Tools/Platform, Hardware, and Software Requirement


Tools/Platform:
- Java Development Kit (JDK 8 or above)
- Integrated Development Environment (NetBeans/Eclipse)
- MySQL Database
- Apache Tomcat (for web-based deployment)
Hardware Requirements:
- Minimum RAM: 4 GB
- Hard Disk: 20 GB
- Processor: Intel i3 or equivalent

Software Requirements:
- Operating System: Windows/Linux
- Java Development Kit
- MySQL Database Server
- IDE for Java Development (NetBeans/Eclipse)

4. Problem Definition & Requirement Specifications


The Hospital Management System seeks to address the inefficiencies in managing hospital
operations manually. The functional specifications include modules for patient registration,
appointment scheduling, billing, and inventory management. Technical specifications
involve the use of Java for front-end development, MySQL for database management, and
Apache Tomcat for web-based application deployment.

5. Analysis
The system's workflow is represented using Data Flow Diagrams (DFDs) at various levels,
including Level 0, Level 1, and Level 2, to depict the data processing. The Entity-
Relationship diagram illustrates the relationships between entities such as Patients,
Doctors, Appointments, and Bills.

6. Database and Tables Details


The system's database consists of tables such as Patient, Doctor, Appointment, and Billing.
Primary keys and foreign keys are defined to maintain data integrity. For example, the
Patient table includes fields like PatientID (Primary Key), Name, Age, and Contact
Information.

7. Number of Modules and Their Description


The Hospital Management System consists of the following modules:
- Patient Management: Handles patient registration, details update, and history tracking.
- Appointment Management: Manages scheduling, rescheduling, and canceling of
appointments.
- Billing: Automates the billing process for services rendered.
- Inventory Management: Tracks hospital inventory including medicines and equipment.

8. Future Scope and Further Enhancement of the Project


Future improvements to the Hospital Management System can include:
- Integration with mobile applications for remote access.
- AI-based diagnostic assistance.
- Enhanced data security features.
- Support for cloud-based storage and multi-hospital management.
