Class, I have here and apple tree.

Let’s count the apples in the apple tree.

( the teacher point each apple)

( the pupils are counting

So how many apples do we have class? together with the teacher)

Very good, class!

Pupils: 7 ma’am.
Our apple tree has 7 ripe apples. Let’s
harvest our apples.

If our apple tree has 7 ripe apple and

teacher Shelian will picked 3 apples, how

After we picked 3 apples?

(pupils raise their hands)

Angel

Angel: 4 apples ae left

Very good, Angel. ma’am.

Now, if there are 4 apples left and I will

Class do you have any idea of what

could be our topic today?

Winjean (pupils raise their hands)

Winjean: I think our topic

for today ma’am is all
Very good, our topic today is all about about taking away.
Subtraction of Whole Numbers or also
known as “taking away”.

( the teacher shows a visual of the

objectives)

Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the
students will be able to:
A.Cognitive: Understand the concept of
subtraction is “taking away”.
B.Affective: Show interest in learning
subtraction and its application.
D.Psychomotor: Perform subtraction
operations accurately.

Class read after me.

( pupils are reading after

the teacher)

EXPLAIN
Class our topic for today is Subtraction
 The teacher will of Whole Numbers. Do you have any
introduce the new idea what is subtraction?
lesson
(pupils raise their hands)
Kizza

Kizza: Subtraction ma’am

is taking away.

Very good!

( teacher shows a power point

presentation)

Subtraction is when you take away

objects from a group and then count how
many are left.
Is read as minus. It means
subtract.

( the teacher explain what is subtraction

and the subtraction sign)

How do we call this sign?

(points the minus sign)

Pupils: Minus ma’am.

Very good!
Subtraction has 3 parts and they are
called as minuend, subtrahend, and
difference.

(teacher shows a power point

presentation)

The minuend is defined as the number

from which another number is to be
subtracted.

The subtrahend is the number that will

be subtracted from another.

The difference is defined as the result of

subtracting the subtrahend from the (pupils are paying
minuend. In other words, it is the answer attention to the discussion
or the solution to a subtraction of their teacher)
problem.

( while the teacher is explaning the 3

parts of subtraction she also shows an
example)
Again class, what are the three parts of
subtraction?

(while pointing the example)

Pupils: Minuend ,
Subtrahend and
Difference.

Very good and what do we call this sign?

(points the minus sign)

Pupils: Minus ma’am.

Very good class, now we will be having
an activity.

ELABORATE

 Teacher will give

another activity to (the teacher show finger folding)
the students

Activity: Find the Difference (using

finger folding)

1.5– 4 =___
Answer Key
2.9– 3 =___
3.8– 1 =___ 1.5– 4 = 1

4.7– 2 =___ 2.9– 3 = 6

5.6 – 3 =___ 3.8– 1 = 7

4.7– 2 = 5
5.6 – 3 = 3

We will answer these using the finger

folding. Raise your hands if you want to
answer.

Who wants to answer number 1?

(pupils raise their hands)

Arlie
( Arlie answered number 1
using the finger folding)

Arlie: 5-4 = 1 ma’am

Very good Arlie!
Who’s next?
(pupils raise their hands)

Julbert

( Julbert answered number

2 using the finger folding)

Julbert: 9-3= 6
Very good Julbert!

( the pupils continue in answering using

finger folding until they finish the
activity.
EVALUATE
Class can you please get your papers and
 The teacher will answer this.
give a long quiz and
assignments (pupils get their papers
Directions: Subtract and write the and they answer)
answer in the box provided.
Count the fruits and find the difference!

You will be given 15 minutes to answer

class.

( after 15 minutes kindly pass your paper

class)
(pupils pass their papers)
I will be giving you a worksheet and this
should be pass next meeting.

ASSIGNMENT
Count the object, and find and write the
difference in the box.

( teacher give all pupil a worksheet)
