Yellow Band Disease : Destroying Corals in Thailand

Corals of eastern Thailand are getting affected by Yellow band disease which is killing
corals over vast stretches of the sea floor. Yellow-band disease named for the colour
it turns corals before destroying them, was first spotted decades ago and has caused
widespread damage to reefs There is no known cure for this disease and corals will
not be restored once they get infected by this disease. Scientists believe overfishing,
pollution and rising water temperatures because of climate change may be making
the reefs more vulnerable to yellow-band disease.

GJ 1002 b and c: Two New Planets

An international group of researchers has recently discovered the presence of two
planets with masses comparable to that of the Earth in orbit around the star GJ 1002.
The two new planets are named, GJ 1002 b and GJ 1002 c. These planets lie in so-
called habitable zones, within which water could be found in liquid form, and which is located in the immediate
vicinity of the star due to its low luminosity. The two planets were discovered using the radial velocity (RV) method.

NASA's James Webb Space Telescope discovers new exoplanet named LHS 475b
LHS 475b is roughly the same size as Earth, with a diameter of 99% that of Earth.
It is a celestial, rocky planet located approximately 41 light-years away from Earth in the
constellation Octane. It differs from Earth in two respects - it completes one orbit in only two
days and it is hundreds of degrees hotter than Earth.

Exoplanet:
Exoplanets are planets that orbit other stars and are away from our solar system. The first confirmation of the
detection of an exoplanet was in the year 1992. According to NASA, more than 5,000 exoplanets have been
discovered so far. Scientists believe that there are more planets than stars because at least one planet orbits each
star.

quality data return. Geotail gathered an immense dataset on the structure
and dynamics of the magnetosphere, Earth’s protective magnetic bubble.
The mission made important contributions to our understanding of how
the solar wind interacts with Earth’s magnetic field to produce magnetic
