A. MECHANICAL CHECKS AND VISUAL INSPECTION

A1 Inspect switchgear and all components for any physical damage / defects.

A2 Check nameplate information for correctness.

Inspect enclosures for proper alignment, foundation fixing, and grounding and vermin
A3
entry.

A4 Inspect all covers, panels’ section and doors for paintwork and proper fit.

A5 Check all the transport locks are removed.

Check for smooth and proper movement of racking mechanisms, shutter, rollers, rails
A6
and guides.

A7 Check proper alignment of the primary and secondary contacts.

A8 Check operation of all mechanical interlocks.

A9 Check tightness of all bolted connections.

A10 Check for correct phasing connection of bus bar.

A11 Perform mechanical check and visual inspection for breaker/ Contactor as per section.

Perform mechanical check and visual inspection for instrument transformers as per
A12
section

Perform mechanical check and visual inspection on all disconnect and grounding
A13
switches as per section.

B. INSULATION RESISTANCE TEST

It includes panel enclosure, busbar, CT & breaker. The following precautions should be
B1
taken care, before starting the testing.

A visual inspection will be made to ensure the surface dust and moisture has been
B2
removed from the component under test.

1 of 6
Ensure the component is isolated from other connected system, which may feed back to
other components or circuits not under test. On testing, voltage shall be applied between
one phase and other phases connected with ground, testing shall be repeated for other
phases as mentioned above. Test voltage limits mentioned in table 4.1.

C. CONTACT RESISTANCE TEST - Busbar / Switch / Earth switch Test

C1 This test is to confirm the busbar joints are connected properly and verify the tightness.

The test shall be done with CBs inserted and closed. Measure the contact dc resistance
C2 between panels by injecting 100ADC. This will include busbar joint, CB contact resistance,
CB cluster resistance, and CT primary resistance (if applicable)

Limits:
The obtained results should be similar for all phases for each set of measurement.
C3
Other influencing factors to be considered, like length of the measured path, rating of
the busbar, rating of CB, rating of CT and temperature.

D. HIGH VOLTAGE TEST:

A visual inspection will be made to ensure the surface dust and moisture has been
D1
removed from the component under test.

Ensure the component is isolated from other connected system, which may feed back to
D2
other components or circuits not under test.

A check shall be made to verify the ground for the component under test and test
D3
equipment being connected to system ground.

D4 CT’s secondary terminals shall be shorted.

D5 VT’s & Surge arresters shall be isolated from the equipment under test.

D6 Mark out test area and assure nobody can enter during test.

D7 Circuit breakers/contactors should be inserted and closed.

Busbars should be fully mounted tightened and shields between phases & between
D8
phases and earth should be in place. Moreover, busbar covers should be in place.

D9 All earthing switches related to equipment under test should be open.

D10 Busbar conductivity test shall be performed.

D11 Insulation resistance test should be performed before and after commencing the test.

D12 Instructions of test equipment being used should be followed.

D13 After each test subject under test should be discharged to ground.

E. PROTECTIVE RELAY

Mechanical Checks and Visual Inspection:

1. Inspect for physical damage / defects.
E1 2. Check the nameplate information for correctness.
3. Carryout visual check as per manufacturer recommendation.
4. Check the wiring connections are as per approved drawing.

Secondary Injection Test:

The secondary injection test shall be performed as per manufacturer pre- commissioning
E2
instructions and the forms shall be followed for record. The relay shall be set for final
approved setting.

Protection / Control Functional Test

This will verify all inputs to relay and outputs from the relay are properly connected, as it
E3 required. An injection (current/ voltage) shall be made and checked the functions
outputs (trip, alarm, indication, control). Inputs shall be initiated from the source and
monitored the proper outputs from the relay.

Switchgear/Controlgear shall be tested using a three-phase source of power. Each phase

E4 current is to be maintained at no less than the rated continuous current.
IEEE C37.20.1 - 2002, 6.2.3.7.

Copper bus bars conductor in bolted connections are to be used for the test connections.
E5
IEEE C37.20.1 - 2002, 6.2.3.8.

Performance - After the test, the switchgear/controlgear shall have:

a) no breakage of insulation
or structural components b) no permanent deformation of
bus or its supports c) no separation of bus or bus
connections, and no reduction in the cross section of the bus or bus connections
E6
d) the removable element shall be capable of moving from the connected to the
disconnected position and vise versa via its intended means.
e) no signs of pitting or welding of primary
disconnect devices.
IEEE C37.20.1 - 2002, 6.2.4.1.5

Manufacturer's Testing Procedure, if any, shall take precedence during testing of the
E7 equipment.
NFPA 70, NEC 110.3
Note: Other inspection criterias which is not in this list & applicable as per site condition shall be refered to the technical specifications & Approved drawings.
