Pa Tho Physiology of Primary Complex

Tuberculosis is caused by the Mycobacterium tuberculosis bacterium invading the lungs. The bacteria are ingested by macrophages but are able to replicate inside when the phagosome is arrested. This leads to the formation of cavities filled with necrotic lung tissue and bacteria. Over time, the body develops an immune response though the bacteria can remain dormant in the body for life.

PATHOPHYSIOLOGY OF TUBERCULOSIS

Precipitating factor Socio-economic status Environment (poor hygiene) Hx of BRONCHITIS Age: 7 yrs. Old Previous contact to person with tuberculosis

Low immunity/ resistance of the patient Necrotic degeneration occurs

M. tuberculosis (tubercle bacilli) enters the body Arrest of the phagosome w/c result to bacterial replication

Bacterial invasion at the lung tissue or near the pleurae of the lungs

Bacteria is ingested by the macrophage

Production of the cavities filled with cheese like mass of tubercle bacilli, dead WBC, and necrotic lung tissue

Cough and colds

Drainage of the necrotic materials into the tracheobroncial trees Tubercle bacilli immunity develops (23 wks. Of infection)

Alveoli fluid increase Decreased gas exchange Decreased O2 supply in the blood Decreased O2 supply in the body tissue

DOB

Tubercle bacilli remain in the body as long as living bacilli remains in the body

Body malaise Fatigue

Acquiring the immunity leads to further growth of infection

Loss of appetite Sudden Wt. loss

ACTIVE INFECTION
