electronic means or chemical means using light-sensitive materials such as film.

It has been long accepted that photography can be art, depending on how the shooter
(photographer) expresses a distinct way of feeling, seeing, and imagining. It offers artists a powerful
means of expression.

Apart from acquiring high-end cameras, lenses, and film, a skilled photographer makes many
aesthetic choices regarding composition, angle, focus, distance, and light.
 Kuraldal: The Ritual Dance

Kuraldal is a ritual dance and veneration of a bronze crucifix by the people of San
Juan in Betis, Pampanga. Photographer Ruston Banal captures the spectacle of

CINEMA-Is an aesthetic communication through the design of time and
three-dimensional space into two-dimensional images with sound.

-Film and video are essentially photographs and shots in sequence to give
the illusion of movement.

The illusion of image motion is made possible by the persistence of vision.

PERSISTENCE OF VISION
It is a brief retention of an image on the retina of our eyes after a
stimulus is removed. The rapid succession of these still images or
photographs creates the illusion of motion.
There are three fundamental principles in the creation of
form in film:

Film creates an illusion of motion

Film manipulates space and time in a distinct manner.

ELEMENTS OF FILM FORM:

NARRATIVE Is the art form of storytelling. It is understood as a

means by which the story within the film is structured
and organized. What a movie is about – its story,
characters, and the world.
 SETTING
Is the time and place of the
narrative. A setting can be as
big as the galaxy or space, or as
small as a specific room. Setting
can even be a created
atmosphere or frame of mind

ELEMENTS OF FILM FORM:

MISE-EN- In the aspect of film form, it includes everything that

SCENCE appears before the camera within a shot. Sets,
locations, actors, props, costumes, light and shadow,
and staged body motion are all part of the mise en
scene.
 MISE EN SCENE
This means everything is within the
frame.
In media terms, it has become a
description of all the objects within a
frame of the media product and how
they have been arranged.

Is the linking of two different pieces of film (two different
EDITING shots) An Editor uses time and continuity as tools in
presenting the narrative.
The CUT is the most common editing technique in which
one shot transitions abruptly into the next.
When the camera is still and slows for a long period of
time it often creates a contemplative and somber effect.
The dramatic scene will often be one long take.
Rapid cuts stimulate energy and action.

SOUND In the film, this is often overlooked. We tend to think of

film as a fundamentally visual medium. But the sound
is a very powerful technique. It can shape how we
perceived and interpret the image.

Three components of sound in film:

1. Dialogue
2. Sound Effects
3. Music
TWO TYPES OF SOUND IN FILM:
DIEGETIC -sound within the story
world. (Radio, speech, traffic noises,
weather noises)
NON- DIEGETIC
sound outside the story world. (Voice-
overs and music on the sound track)
 TECHNIQUE IN FILMMAKING:
Narrative Film Making – refers to the
type of movies that tell a story that is
directed towards fiction and dramatic
story-telling.
 TECHNIQUE IN FILMMAKING:

Documentary Filmmaking – is more

concerned with exposing and
interpreting real facts and historical
events for the education of the viewers,
or the presentation of political or social
analyses, and even propaganda.
 TECHNIQUE IN FILMMAKING:

Experimental Filmmaking- is the most

difficult of all types of movies to define
with any precision because
experimental filmmakers actively seek to
challenge categorization and break
convention.
