Peta - Oc 11 - Q2.
Introduction: In these activities, you will explore how to communicate politely and
effectively in multicultural situations. You will engage in tasks that help you understand
different communication styles and how to apply polite strategies in a talk show setting. Each
activity builds up to your final product: a talk show where you will demonstrate what you
have learned.
Activity:
Research the basic polite greetings, gestures, and ways to express disagreement in three ASEAN
countries. Focus on simple communication habits that are commonly used in workplaces, such as
shaking hands or using respectful language.
Product:
Create a one-page infographic that shows how politeness is expressed in these cultures (you can use
tools like Canva or even draw it by hand and take a picture).
Objective:
Scaffold 2
Work with a partner to practice polite responses to everyday situations (e.g., politely disagreeing, asking
for help, offering feedback) using role-play. Each of you should take turns as the speaker and the
listener.
Use phrases like “I understand, but…” or “Could you please explain more?” to practice how to
communicate politely and clearly.
Product:
A simple script with polite responses to three situations (you can write them on paper or type them up).
Whole page of long bond paper or yellow paper.
Objective:
Scaffold 3
Product:
A one-page outline of your talk show, including each member’s role and the main points you will
discuss.
Objective:
Organize your talk show content and decide how you will demonstrate polite communication strategies.
Creativity: Come up with interesting topics for your talk show and how to present them.
Collaboration: Work as a group to plan your talk show.
Significance – Are the communicative strategies discussed important and impactful in a real-world
context?
Relevance – Are the examples and strategies relevant to the audience's needs and the situation
presented?
Organization – Is the talk show structured in a clear, logical, and engaging manner?
Narrative Form
In this task, you will take part in a virtual talk show aimed at young professionals and
international business leaders. Your objective is to address the communication challenges
faced in multicultural workplaces. Each participant will represent a different ASEAN country,
sharing their cultural perspectives and communication strategies.
As panelists or hosts of this talk show, you will role-play as young professionals offering
advice on how to communicate effectively in diverse settings. The situation you are tackling
is common in today's globalized work environment: misunderstandings arising from different
cultural communication styles. Your goal is to engage your audience in a meaningful, polite,
and respectful dialogue that provides solutions to these challenges.
The final product is a recorded or live talk show in which your team discusses and
demonstrates acceptable and polite communicative strategies that bridge cultural differences.
You will present real-world solutions to common communication issues that occur in diverse,
multicultural environments.
