1. 00 Waterproofing shall be tested for minimum 48 hours or as manufacturer recommendation. Open

1. SCOPE OF WORK

The scope of this Method Statement is to define all the procedures and inspections to
be followed for Waterproofing for Wet Areas .

2. PURPOSE

The purpose of this Method Statement is to describe the quality control procedure to be
followed during Waterproofing for Wet Areas at the mentioned project.
To ensure that at the time of applying Waterproofing for Wet Areas , the proposed material and
workmanship to be used at the site are complying with the condition/ requirements as
stipulated . The works will be in accordance and conformance to Meinhardt surveillance,
witness and approval.

5. ROLES & RESPONSIBILITY, PLANNING & REPORTING


5. 1 Project Manager

Oversee the project to ensure the desired result is achieved, the most efficient resources are used
and the different interests involved are satisfied. Review the quality of the work within the project
team on a regular basis to ensure that it meets the project standards and are completed as per the
program. Monitor safety to ensure that the requirements are enforced and implemented at all times
on site.

Project/ Site Engineer – Work directly at site with the foreman to ensure that all the required
information has been provided to proceed with the work, and that the works comply with project
specification, method statement and shop drawings. He liaises with client’s staff with respect to
inspection and approvals.

5.2 QA/QC Manager

Coordinate with Project Manager and his team about QA/QC related activities of the Project,
Following up continuous improvement for the quality within the project. Evaluating the project
quality program.

5.3 Construction Manager

Oversee and directs construction activities from conception to completion. Review the activities in-
depth to schedule deliverable and estimate in time. Oversee all onsite and offsite constructions to
monitor compliance with building and safety regulations. Coordinate and direct Site engineers and
subcontractors. Select tools, materials and equipment and track inventory. Review the work
progress on daily basis. Prepare internal and external reports pertaining to job status. Plan ahead to
prevent problems and resolve any emerging ones. Analyze, manage and mitigate risks. Ensure
quality construction standards and the use of proper construction techniques

5.4 QA/QC Engineer

He will be monitor all activities and make sure that all required inspection & test are
carried out and all work shall be operated and recorded in accordance with the contract quality plan.

5.5 Land Surveyor

The surveyor will supervise all the surveying activities on site and has full control over the use of the
chain men and equipment. He ensures for achieving timely and proper setting out of the works,
responsible for accuracy of survey and testing of equipment and will coordinate to the Site
Engineers for any work that ready for inspection.

5.6 HSE Manager

He will monitor and provide full technical support for the implementation of this procedure. Ensuring that the
requirements of these procedures are consistently met to adhered to. Preparing the HSE required documents
and submissions, securing the approval of top management for their implementation and for making all
necessary needed arrangements.
The HSE manager shall carry out the initial review of the method statement,prepare risk assessment and
conduct RAMS briefing as soon as method statement and risk assessment are approved by the consultant
The HSE manager shall ensure that work carried out in strict compliance with project approved H & S plan,
contract documents. To lead the entire HSS team, maintaining HSS awareness and to create safe culture and
working environment through innovative ideas.
Issue necessary directives to Project Safety Officer / Departmental Managers and render advice to the Project
Manager as required.
Prepare and submit HSE report to project Manager whenever so required.
Visit construction site during on-going activities and interact with Consultant and Sub-contractors on HSS
matters, whenever necessary.
Reporting internally and externally as required in consultation with the Supervision Consultant, safety
incidents, including near miss events and injuries.

Investigating incidents, ensuring root cause/s are identified, and corrective actions address root cause/s,
managers are assigned responsibility for actions and that lessons learn are communicated and implemented
to prevent recurrence.
Actively promote hazard identification, reporting and elimination or control by all project personnel
Monitoring and reviewing the HS performance of the project HS team and taking appropriate action to
correct poor performance.
Ensure security arrangement for the project is in place
Monitor and report effectiveness of security arrangements.
HSE Officer – He will be responsible for ensuring implementation of safe working procedures. Keeping
hazard/incident/unsafe practices reports and ensuring that corrective actions are undertaken as per HSE plan.
Evaluate and record all relevant documentation, shall be current and valid.

5.7 Civil Supervisor

The civil supervisor will supervise all the activities on site and has full control over the use of the labor, plant
and equipment. He ensures that the work is carried out in full compliance with the specification, and in
manner that conforms to the safety requirements and will coordinate to the Project/ Site Engineer for any
work is complete and ready for inspection.
Lifting Supervisor-Qualified and experienced personnel shall monitor tunnel related activities
Follow guidelines and inspection procedures.
Conduct daily pre-task briefing prior to starting the activity and that all lifting activities are in accordance with
the lifting plan. Make sure a valid lift plan is available for the critical lift. Supervise all critical lifts. Ensure
employees have adequate operational knowledge & experience Immediately remove from service any
equipment that fails inspection.

6. WORK METHODOLOGY / PROCEDURE


6.1 Delivery, Storage and Handling.

Material must be as per approved material submittal conforming to standard specification and contract
document.
Delivery and storage of waterproof materials at site to be coordinated with site HSE staff. The storage area
must be secured and provided with proper warning sign of hazardous material.

A. Delivery: Deliver materials in manufacturer’s unopened containers or packages fully identified


with name and qualifying information.

B. Storage: Store materials in a clean, cool dry place, under cover protected from water and direct sunlight
below 30 centigrade. Do not exceed the allowable structural capacity of the storage area. Observe
manufacturer’s recommended temperature limits.

C. Handling: Handle in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendations. Replace materials that are
damaged, contaminated or otherwise unfit for use. Do not open packaging or remove labels until just prior to
application.

6.2 Mockups.

Prior to execution of works, mock-up shall be prepared for Water Proofing Works on the
concrete surface to be approved by the ENGINEER.
Approved mock-ups will become part of the permanent work if undisturbed at the time of
completion of the Waterproofing works as per ENGINEER’s discretion.

6.3 General.
1) Abtech will make sure that all the material must be approved before commencing of the
activity.
2) Toolbox talk will be provided for how to handle the chemical before commencing
any waterproofing activity.
3) All the personnel involved in the activity will be trained by the manufacturer’s
representative.
4) MSDS from the manufacture will be available with this MSRA, for easy reference, the copy
of MSRA will be available at job site permit box.
5) Abtech HSE personnel make sure that, all the personnel involved in the activity must
have the recommended PPE mentioned in the MSDS.
6) Abtech assured the Meinhardt that, all the chemical material will be stored in the particular
and specified container which is having the adequate ventilation.
7) All the flammable liquids stored in the containers will be clearly label as HAZARDOUS or
FLAMEABLE MATERIAL.
8) All the containers will be clearly label as per the Meinhardts requirements.
9) Abtech will assure that non-sparking tools and materials will be use in areas where
flammable dust accumulated.

6.4 S u r f a c e Preparation
1) The surface that should be coated with the waterproofing material shall be clear from dirt,
dry and clean.
2) The surface shall be thoroughly cleaned with a wire brush and all foreign matter shall be
removed. Wash away any loose material, oil, or dirt still clinging to the concrete.
3) All high spots should be removed.
4) Grinding should be carried to smooth out any rough, uneven concrete so that the
waterproofing material has an even surface to adhere to.

6.5 Installation / Application
1) Do not apply waterproofing to surfaces unacceptable to client.
2) All products incorporated in the works to be in accordance with the manufacturer’s current
technical data sheet.
3) Prior to ordering, material submittal to be submitted, together with current technical
data sheets for approval.
4) Preparation and cleaning for the surfaces to receive waterproofing and to remove any loose
material.
5) Apply the waterproof material by spray, roller, squeegee, trowel or brush.

6) By use of the appropriate grade, the correct film thickness (1.3 mm) can be achieved in one
pass. In critical applications where surety of film thickness is paramount, two coats should
be applied at right angles to one another.
7) The recommended rate application is 1.3 liter /m² ( at 1.3 mm thickness )

8) The minimum application life (after opening the pack) is up to 48 hours if stored
in closed containers.

6.6 FLood Tests


Prior to placement of protection, flood to a minimum depth of 50 mm of water for 24
hours. Drains shall be plugged and barriers placed to contain the water.

6.7 Curing and Protection

Waterproofing Materials must be cured for a minimum of 24 hours at


25oC before placing protection.
Where damage to the membrane is possible (by traffic, back-filling etc.) It should be
protected by a cementitious screed or protection boards /layer.
A dust coat of cement should be used to prevent adhesion of the membrane to
the boards.

6.8 In Case of Spillage:


In the event of spill occurrence, the following actions will be taken:
Contain the release
The spill area will be cordoned off with caution tape, ensuring that the caution tape
material is decompose in nature or environmentally friendly
Spill will be Cleaned up from the affected area, follow MSDS.

Oil and chemical spill kits will be used to contain the oil and chemical spillage respectively
The contaminated soil or media will be disposed of properly to the bin/skip dedicated
to collect spillage / hazardous waste
The personnel involved in the above activity will wash their hands and other body surfaces
that may have contacted the spilled material, in line with MSDS. The waste hauler shall
have municipality approval for receipt of dumping material.
It will be ensured that the personnel involved will wear appropriate PPE at all times and
personal safety will be given priority. Under no circumstances should personal safety be
put in jeopardy.
The minimum requirement of PPE to be used during the spillage containment activity are
1. Hand gloves (nylon) 2. Safety Shoes 3. Safety Goggles & 4. Safety face or nose mask

NOTE: Any spillage that has been observed either small, large or spills of any size that
create an emergency situation by possible fire, explosion, or threat to the environment
or the health and safety of people will be reported to the client.

6.9 Tools and Equipment

or goggles, approved respirator and safety jacket.

7. Quality Control

The inspection and testing of all Waterproofing Works shall be carried out in accordance
with Inspection and Test Plan for Waterproofing Works.
The quality control testing requirements per applicable M e n h r a d t standards shall
be performed by a Client approved independent testing agency.
Supervisors and workers shall be made aware the ITP requirements at Pre-Work and Tool
Box Meetings.

8. HSE

1. Safety inspector will ensure that all workers and workplaces are safe.
2. All personnel must adhere to the safety rules and regulations at the site.
3. A hazard identification and control measure has been implemented.
4. Safety officer will be available in the work area until the work is completed.
5. PPE shall be worn at all times.
6. Method statements for all activities shall be in place and discussed with workers.
7. Prior to commencement of any activity, the workforce will receive a safety
induction and tool box talk on the project site safety requirements.
8. Safety inspector and direct supervisor will ensure that PPE (Safety Shoe, Hard Hat,
Hand Gloves, Reflective Waist, Safety Googles and Mask) are worn by site
personnel at all times during this activity.
9. Identify the harmful chemicals used on site and ensure appropriate hazard
warnings labels are affixed for effective communication.
10. Use appropriate chemical containers and only carry the required quantities to your
worksite.
11. Ensure chemicals are storied and stacked to avoid the spillage and falling over.
12. Follow safe handling process while transferring chemicals from one container to
another container.
13. Containers must be closed. "Closed" means shut tightly enough that contents
cannot spill if tipped over.
14. Keeping chemicals away from food and drinks
15. Read and understand the Safety Data Sheet for chemicals, wear appropriate
PPE’s.
16. Chemical leaks or spills must only be responded to by trained and competent
response people.
17. Ensure emergency response arrangements including first aid, eye wash facility, spill
kits, etc.

11.0 QUALITY CONTROLS

The Inspection and Test Plan (ITP) for this Method Statement summarizes various
characteristics to be checked. The concerned Site Engineer or General Foreman will be
responsible to ensure compliance for these operations and the site QA / QC Engineer will carry
out quality control checks and report the inspection results.

12.0 HANDLİNG AND STORİNG OF MATERİALS

All materials shall be inspected at time of delivery for damage and for compliance with
specifications. Any material that is found to be damaged or not in accordance with the
specification shall be immediately replaced.All materials shall be handled and stored as

recommended by the manufacturer to prevent damage and deterioration. During storage,
handling and transporting, every precaution shall be taken to prevent damage to material. On
delivery at site, material will be checked for any damage incurred during transport and
offloading to Storage area. Storage will be done in suitable and safe locations (e.g. store yard
or near site work area). Storing of materials near site work area has the potential of congesting
the site and could affect the Health and Safety of operatives hence suitable storage facility for
materials storage will be provided at a safe distance from the work areas.

13.0 SAFETY TO PUBLIC & OCCUPIERS

Control measures will be ensured to be in place to protect the public, workforce and assets by
providing appropriate lighting, fencing, barricades, and lockable units. Adequate levels of
security including the use of trained security guards will be required. The ABCC will also ensure
appropriate warning signage is displayed and where appropriate safe pedestrian walkways are
identified and maintained. Safety and security procedures will be implemented in accordance
with the Work Zone Traffic Management Guide and as required by the Department of Civil
Defense and the police. These shall be included, as a minimum, warning signs and lights,
adequate barricades, railings, road hump for reduced & control speed and other safeguards as
required by the nature and location of the work being undertaken. Access to all properties will
be maintained by adequately sign posted diversions, temporary bridges or other facilities.
A night safety patrol & watchman (as applicable areas) will be assigned to ensure that all
barricades, lights and other protective apparatus are maintained during the hours of darkness.
Designated pedestrian routes will be clearly signed and with firm even surfaces that are free
from distractions. Slopes and steps will have anti-slip surfaces. Where the edges of pedestrian
routes are raised more than 1.2m above the surrounding level solid barriers will be provided at
each raised edge to prevent people from falling. Temporary pedestrian bridges with hand
railings or suitable ramp will be provided to facilitate safe access/egress . Temporary electrical
cables, hoses or pipes shall be routed away from pedestrian access areas. Where such
equipment crosses pedestrian areas it will be located under the pedestrian area or over it at a
height of at least 5.2 m above the surface. Supports shall be provided at span of 3 meters.

Where such equipment is routed over a pedestrian area it will be clearly marked with warning
signs. Method statement and risk assessment will be provided for all demolition and
dismantling activities. Everyone involved in the work needs to know what measures are to be
taken to control the risks and a pre work briefing based on the method statement and job
hazard analysis will be given and recorded by the supervisor. Workers will be closely
supervised to ensure that the control measures required are put into practice. An exclusion
zone will be created around the demolition or dismantling area to prevent persons not directly
involved with the work activity around the work area gaining access. Any materials will not be
allowed to fall into any area where people are working or passing through. Protection screens,
fences or canopies may be needed to control falling objects Approved Flood Mitigation and
Rainy Season Plan shall be implemented effectively to ensure safety of the public and
occupiers. Public Complains if any will be attended immediately and ensuring no re-occurrence
by implementing all necessary control measures are in place.
