Hallo

Dear Mrs. Rika Puspitarini as a tutor and fellow students

Permission to respond to discussion topic 1 As follows:
Please discuss about the difference the differences between formal and informal
words and give the examples.
Language as a medium can be represented as a bridge in communicating. Because
with the presence of language, communication can be established and all intentions and
goals can be conveyed by the speaker to the interlocutor, such as: information in the form of
ideas, feelings or messages. Based on this, yes In conclusion, it has a very important role in
everyday life as a medium of communication, especially English which is a language
international. In this case the importance of English is very necessary master communication
technology and in direct interaction, then Furthermore, English must be mastered both
verbally and in writing (Handayani,2016).
Formal language should be used in formal situations. Formal speech spoken or
formal language refers to the language we usually use in situations when the speaker is very
careful with word choice, sentence structure and pronunciation (Richards & Schmidt,
2010). However, the use of formal language of course reduces flexibility and spontaneity in
producing language. A number of norms reject the language used (Irvine, 1979). From this
opinion, it means when using formal language, there are certain rules or forms of language
that are acceptable and there are also language rules that we cannot use in formal
language. Meanwhile, informal language is when there are no rules and hierarchies (Kraut
et al). Based on this opinion, it can be concluded that language Informal is not standardized
like formal language and its use is free without any specific rules.
The use of these two types of language has significant differences. Language formal
applied in books, official documents, news reports, business letters or speeches formal, a
formal expression used when people write essays for school, letters introduction to applying
for a job, or a letter at work, for example choosing vocabulary exact words, avoid
abbreviations This consideration could be known as rules or codes that define and
characterize a formal language. Meanwhile, Language informal is used in everyday
conversation and in personal emails, in writing Informal sentences are longer and more
complex whereas in informal writing shorter and simpler (Akhmad & Amiri, 2018). Informal
language refers to interactive and rich language. This type of language is used
spontaneously. There are no certain rules that limit the choice of words to communicate.
Communication is interactive because the situation makes people interact more freely so
that people can communicate comfortably (Megawati, 2016)
Based on the example above, there are several factors that influence people to use both
formal and informal language in certain situations. Generally, the factors can be situations,
status, settings and patterns. Status means the position of the speaker and listener in
society is either superior or inferior. Settings means the speaker's place or environment,
such as school, home, or classroom. Pattern refers to communication media, whether
spoken or written language. Situation means situation when the speaker communicates
whether it is a formal or informal situation (Sofiyanti,2014).

According to the module book that I read, MKWI4201, informal language is defined
as language used in informal situations. Also, informal language can be spoken or written, in
spoken form informal language is usually used to send messages to friends or family
members, write postcards, write blogs, or write statuses on social media. while formal
language is the language that is usually used when talking to people we don't know very well
or in situations when we have to be formal and polite
So in my opinion, in general, language is divided into two, namely, formal and
informal language. The use of these two types of language is used based on certain
situations. Every human being has their own capabilities when using language in their lives,
including when using these two types of language. Formal language is official language that
is standardized by rules or conventions with a standard form, while informal language is
language that is not standardized and its use is not in formal situations or can be said to be
applied in casual everyday life

examples of formal and informal sentences:

Formal:
Can I bother you for a moment?
Informal:
do you have a moment?
