HCI Guidelines
Instructions:
Create an evaluation table for the website. It should include the guidelines, website rating based
on the guideline (Note: 10 is the highest rating and 1 is the lowest), and remarks to indicate the
reason for your rating. You can customize the design of your table. See Table 1 for reference. (30
points)

Guidelines Rating Remarks

Simplicity 10 The appearance of the website
is simple
Visual hierarchy 10 It draws your eyes to their
mission before anything else
Navigability 10 Helps visitor find what they’re
looking for
consistency 8 The overall look of the site is
not similar across all site’s
pages
Responsivity 9 Content is automatically
resized and reshuffled to fit
the dimensions of whichever
device a visitor is using
Conventionality 10 The logo is clickable, so it
always brings the visitor back
to the homepage
Credibility 9 Provides the best user
experience

5. Include the link where you retrieved the set of guidelines you use to evaluate in your answer
sheet.
9 Guidelines & Best Practices for Exceptional Web Design and Usability (hubspot.com)

6. After filling out the table, write an essay with at least five (5) sentences explaining why you
selected that specific set of guidelines to evaluate the websites. (15 points)
- I selected these specific guidelines by following the guidelines that experts use to
evaluate a website. Using web design guidelines like simplicity, visual hierarchy,
navigability, consistency, responsivity, conventionality, and credibility is essential for
creating user-friendly, professional, and trustworthy websites. These principles help
ensure that users can easily navigate the site, find important information, and have a
positive experience across various devices. They also build trust and meet user
expectations, enhancing overall satisfaction.

7. Answer the following questions. Use at least five (5) sentences. (15 points each)
a. If you were going to develop an emergency mobile application, what HCI criteria and
category` would you use as a guideline in the design and development of the application?
Why?

- If I were to develop an emergency mobile application, the HCI criteria I would focus on
is the User Type, especially in the age category. Since emergencies happen
unexpectedly, I would make sure everyone, from kids to older people, can easily
understand and use the app. This means making the app simple and easy to navigate.
People should be able to quickly find what they need and tell the app what’s happening.
I also need to make sure all the important information is easy to find. This will help
everyone feel comfortable and confident using the app in a stressful situation.

b. If you were assigned to design and develop the interface of a learning management system
for a university, what HCI criteria and category would you use as a guideline in the design
and development of the application? Why?

- If I were assigned to design and develop the interface of a learning management system
(LMS) for a university, the HCI criteria I would focus on are the user-centered design,
learnability, efficiency and aesthetics by this I can consider the needs of different user
groups (students, teachers, staff), ensuring that its accessible to all, the interface is
easy to use and learn, optimizing workflows, and an engaging visual experience. By
prioritizing these criteria, I can create an LMS that helps everyone learn and work better.

c. If you were developing the interactive interface of a video editing tool, what HCI criteria and
category would you use as a guideline in the design and development of the application?
Why?

- To design a good video editing tool interface, I'd use these HCI guidelines: - General
Design: Make sure the layout is clear, information is organized well, input methods are
easy to use, and output is displayed clearly. - User Type: Consider the skill level of users
and make the interface accessible to everyone. - Platform: Design for different
operating systems and optimize for mobile or desktop use. Following these criteria
ensures the tool is easy to use, efficient, accessible, and flexible.
