1.1 Solve for 𝑥:


1.1.1 𝑥 2 − 2𝑥 = 24 (3)

1.2 Solve for 𝑥 and 𝑦:


𝑦 = 𝑥 2 − 7𝑥 + 6 and

1.3 When two resistors are in parallel, you can calculate the
resistance using the following equation:

The roots of 𝑔 are equal and 𝑔(−1) = 50.
Determine the equation of 𝑔 in the form 𝑔(𝑥) = 𝑎𝑥 2 + 𝑏𝑥 + 𝑐. (5)

2.2 Given: 4𝑥 2 − 24𝑥 + 𝑝 = 0


The roots of the equation are rational and have a ratio of 5 ∶ 7. Calculate the value of
𝑝 and the roots. (4)

2.3 Simplify

3.2 A hyperbola in the form 𝑦 = − 𝑥+𝑝 + 𝑞 has lines of symmetry 𝑦 = 𝑥 + 3 and
𝑦 = −𝑥 − 7. Find the value of 𝑝 and 𝑞. (4)

 The 𝑦 −intercept is 𝑦 = −6
 The graph passes through the point (3; 8)

Make a neat sketch of this exponential graph, showing all the

Given 𝑓(𝑥) = −𝑥 2 − 6𝑥 + 16 and 𝑔(𝑥) = 2𝑥 + 7

4.1 Find 𝑓(0) − 𝑔(0) (2)

4.2 Express 𝑓(𝑥) = −𝑥 2 − 6𝑥 + 16 in the form 𝑓(𝑥) = 𝑎(𝑥 + 𝑝)2 + 𝑞 (3)

4.3 Hence, or otherwise, write down the co-ordinates of the turning point of 𝑓(𝑥) (2)

4.4 Draw a neat sketch of 𝑓(𝑥) and 𝑔(𝑥), on the same set of axes, showing the intercepts
with the axes as well as the co-ordinates of any turning points. (6)

4.5 The graphs of 𝑓 and 𝑔 intersect at 𝑥 = −9 and 𝑥 = 1. For which value(s) of 𝑥 is:

4.5.1 𝑓(𝑥) ≥ 𝑔(𝑥) (1)

4.5.2 𝑓(𝑥). 𝑔(𝑥) ≥ 0 (2)

4.5.3 𝑥. 𝑓(𝑥) ≥ 0 (2)

4.6 Find the equation of the graph obtained if 𝑔(𝑥) is reflected in the 𝑥-axis. (2)
