SECTION A (30 marks): Below are 30 problems, work them out carefully and write the

SECTION B: READING COMPREHENSION (20 marks)

Read the passage below and answer the questions that follow.

Ayamba is a class six pupil in one of the schools in town. She is twelve years old
and speaks English, French, Kenyang and Douala. She is fortunate to have always had
her grandparents with her. They speak their local language with her at home. While
in school, she uses the official languages: English and French. She used to visit
her grandparents in the village during long holidays. These visits did help her to
speak the kenyang language fluently and exposed her to aspects of her culture. She
also did farming and fetching of water.

In school, Ayamba accepts and plays with her classmates no matter where they come
from. Manga is her best friend. She is from the Douala tribe and speaks Douala
fluently. Her closeness to Manga made her speak the Douala language. This also
encouraged Manga to speak Kenyang. During break one can hear them discussing in
either of the local languages. This has encouraged their classmates to speak at
least their different local languages.
