heat inside the Earth)

A3. Abstraction (30mins)

Presentation of the lesson

"Okay class our topic for today is all

about Earth Internal Heat,
Do you have any idea what is Earth
Internal Heat?
"Very good" (Earth internal heat is having a heat inside that helps the earth
warm)

What is Earth Internal Heat?

"Please read class"

Earth internal heat play a vital role in our planet it makes the
world livable. This heat is responsible for driving many of the

live that planet except on Earth. Through
this many volcanoes were form and
earthquakes.

Before we proceed to the sources of heat,

let’s review first the 3 main layers;

"Please read number 1 class"

1. Crust is the first layer of the Earth. 1.Crust-it is the outermost layer of the Earth, a thin, solid, and
Here is the picture class, look at this. relatively cool layer of rock.

Other example;
I have here an egg, it is called a "shell".
The same on our earth, it is the Crust.
Understand class?

What do you call this shell base on the

layer of earth? (Yes Ma’am)

(Crust Ma’am)

"Please read number 2 class"

2. Mantle is the second layer of the 2. Mantle- it is the thickest layer of the Earth, made up of mostly
Earth. solid rock, but it behaves like a very viscous fluid over long

2,200° Celsius),
Other example;
I have here an egg, I'll peel the eggshell,
it is called a "albumen" Base on our
earth, it is the Mantle.
Understand class? (Yes sir)

What do you call this albumen base on (Mantle sir)

the layer of the earth?

The 3rd Layer was core.

Actually class Core has a two types
Outer and Inner core.

3.Outer Core: is a liquid layer of iron and nickel. It's also

"Please read the Outer Core class" extremely hot (around 4,500° Celsius).

3. Outer Core is the third layer of the

earth. It is extremely hot around 4,500°
Celsius
Look at the picture class.

Other example;
I have here an egg, I'll peel the albumen
we can see the egg yolk. Based on our
earth, it is called the Outer Core. (Yes Ma’am)
Understand class?

What do you call this egg yolk, based on

the layer of the earth? (Outer Core Ma’am)
"Very good"

"Please read the Inner Core class"

- Inner Core- it is the Earth's innermost layer, a solid ball of
mostly iron and nickel. It's incredibly hot (around 5,200°
Inner Core is the center layer of the earth. Celsius).
It is extremely hot around 5,200° Celsius.
Here is the picture class, look at this;

Other example;
When I cut the egg yolk into half. We
can still see the egg yolk. Based on our
earth the center of the egg yolk that cut
into half is called Inner Core.
Understand class?
(Yes Ma’am)
What do you call the center of the egg
yolk base on the layer of the earth?
(It is called the Inner Core)
"Very good"

Play the game the last man stand.

“Group 1, Group 5, Group 2, Group 3,
Group 4”
Okay the question is, what are the 3
layers of the earth? (Crust, Mantle, Inner Core and Outer Core)

"Very good"

Soo now let's proceed to the Sources of

Heat.
There are 2 sources of heat the
Primordial Heat and Radiogenic Heat.
1. Primordial Heat- is a remnant of the planets violent birth
"Please read the Primordial Heat" billions of years ago. As countless smaller bodies collided and
clumped together, the energy of these impacts transformed into
heat energy.
Let's go back to our activity;
- Primordial Heat- it explain that the
warm water represents the heat trapped
inside Earth from its formation, billions
of years ago. For example, based on our
activity I'll fill the pitcher (pitcher
represent the earth) about halfway with
warm water. The warm water represents
the heat trapped inside Earth from its (Yes sir)
formation, billions of years ago.
This represents the primordial heat
trapped within Earth from its formation. (No sir)

“Do you understand primordial heat

class?”
2. Radiogenic Heat- is a leafy of Earth formation, radioactive
decay provides a continuous source of internal heat. Such us
Do you have any questions on Uranium, Thorium and potassium. This decay occurs primarily in
primordial heat? the Earth's crust and mantle continuously adding heat and
slowing the planets Cooling process.

"Please read the Radiogenic Heat"

(Our hand was warm Ma’am)

Let's go back to our activity;

(Yes, Ma’am)
-Radiogenic Heat- The Earth's core is
heated by radioactive decay of elements
like uranium, thorium, and potassium. (No, Ma’am)
This decay process releases energy in the
form of heat.
Example. Okay class, rub your hands
together briskly for 30 seconds. Feel the
warmth generated in your hands.
"How does your hand feel? Do you feel 1. Conduction- it involves the direct transfer of heat through
any warm?" molecular collisions within a material.

-That was friction: When you rub your

hands together, you create friction.
Friction converts mechanical energy into
heat energy. This is similar to how "Yes Ma’am, we don't have any questions"
radioactive decay converts nuclear
energy into heat energy within the Earth.
2. Convection- it involves the transfer of heat through the
movement of fluids, such as liquids or gases.
“Do you understand radiogenic heat
class?”
“Do you have any questions on
radiogenic heat?

(Yes ma’am, we don't have any questions)

Let's go to the 3 Primary Mechanism to
transfer heat.
3. Radiation- it involves the transfer of heat through
The Conduction, convection and
electromagnetic waves, which can travel through a vacuum or
radiation.
"Class please read the number 1." any transparent medium.

The conduction is when the heat transfers

to another material. For example, base on
our activity when we place the stone in
the warm water within a minute the stone
will warm. This represents heat being
transferred through conduction from the
water to the object. The heat from the
water is transferred to the object through (Yes ma’am)
direct contact, similar to how heat from
Earth's core is transferred through the
mantle. (No ma’am)

Do you understand conduction class? Do

you have any questions on conduction?
(No ma’am)
Okay number 2 is the convection
"Please read class"

The convection is when the heat transfers

through gasses. For example, based on
our activity, let's observe the water as it (The value of the earth internal health is to make the earth
heats up and cooler water sink. livable. If earth has no internal heat there are no humans here on
The same as on our coffee or milk the our planet.)
heat gasses rise up and cooler water sink.
This is similar to how heat from Earth's
core drives convection currents in the
mantle.
Do you understand convection class? Do
you have any questions on convection?

Let's proceed to the number 3 which is

the radiation.
"Please read class"

The radiation is when the heat transfers

through electromagnetic waves or any
transparent.
For example, based on our activity when
we place the pitcher with water under the
fire it would be warm. Just like when we
boil a water using any kind of stuff that
produce heat the water will warm. The (The student will perform and explain their works)
lighter or heat producer represent to the
sun. This represents the Sun's radiation
warming the Earth's surface.
Do you understand the radiation class?

Do you have any questions or

clarifications on radiation?

From the Earth internal heat, sources of

heat and ways to transfer heat, do you
have any questions or clarifications?

Since you don't have any questions, I'll

be the one too ask a question. okay the
question is, what is the Value of internal
heat in our Earth?

Ms. (Call the name of the student)

"Very good" let's give her a round of

applause"

(Just like what she said; the value of the

earth internal heat is to make the earth
livable. Not like the other planet the earth
has the exact amount for the plants,
animals and people may live.)
A4. APPLICATION (15mins)

"Pick Me, Act and

Explain"
Direction: Each group will pick 1 rolled
paper from my hand. They will perform
based on the word they pick, and each
group must select one representative to
explain their work while the rest will
help to perform the task.
