SECTION-E
Question no. 37 to 39 are case-based/data-based questions with 2 to 3 short sub-parts. Internal choice is provided in one of
these sub-parts.
37. The female reproductive system includes the ovaries, fallopian tubes, uterus, vagina and mammary glands. These organs are
involved in the production and transportation of gametes and the production of sex hormones. The female reproductive
system also facilitates the fertilisation of ova by sperm and supports the development of offspring during pregnancy and
infancy.
38. A student was asked to perform an experiment to study the force on a current carrying conductor in a magnetic field. He took
a small aluminium rod AB , a strong horse-shoe magnet, some connecting wires, a battery and a switch and connected them
as shown. He observed that on passing current, the rod gets displaced. On reversing the direction of current, the direction of
displacement also gets reversed. On the basis of your understanding of this phenomenon, answer the following questions:
39. Ethanol, commonly knowns alcohol, is an active ingredient of all alcoholic drinks. It is also used in medicines such as tincture
iodine, cough syrups and many tonics. Ethanol’s molecular formula is C H6O which means it has two carbon atoms and one

oxygen atom. Inspite of its many benefits, its impact on social behaviour has been questioned as consumption of even a small
quantity of ethanol can cause drunkenness.
