MID-TERM EXAM

Course Title : Principles of Writing (Class A and B)


Academic Year : I - 2024/2025
Day/Date : Tuesday/15 October, 2024
Type of Exam : Take Home Exam (Group Assignment)
Lecturer : Dr. Camelia Catharina

Instructions:
• This is a group assignment. Students should work in groups of 3-4.
• You are required to write a literature review based on the topic of communication
• The review must include a minimum of five peer-reviewed journal articles.
• The final document should be between 1500-2000 words in length.
• Use APA format for citations and references.
• Submit your literature review as a single document by Oct. 21, 2024

Assignment Details:

Part 1: Topic Selection


1. Identify a Specific Subtopic: Within the broader topic of communication, select a
specific area of focus for your literature review. Consider areas such as interpersonal
communication, intercultural communication, digital communication, or
communication in organizational settings.

Part 2: Research and Article Selection


2. Research Articles: Find and select at least five peer-reviewed journal articles that relate
to your chosen subtopic. Your articles may cover theoretical frameworks, empirical
studies, or reviews of current literature.
o Ensure that the articles are from reputable academic journals and published within
the last ten years, if possible.
o Keep in mind the credibility and relevance of each article to your topic.

Part 3: Literature Review Structure


3. Outline Your Review: Create an outline that clearly presents the structure of your
literature review. Use the following sections as a guide:
o Introduction: Briefly introduce your subtopic and explain its importance. State the
purpose of your literature review.
o Body: Organize this section thematically or methodologically. Discuss the findings
of each article and how they contribute to the understanding of communication in
your chosen area. Compare and contrast the authors' viewpoints, methodologies, and
conclusions.
o Conclusion: Summarize the key findings from your literature review and identify any
gaps in the literature. Suggest areas for future research.
Part 4: Writing Process
4. Drafting and Revising: Collaborate with your group to write the literature review based on
your outline.
o Revision: After completing the first draft, revise for clarity, organization, and flow.
Ensure all group members contribute to the final document.
o Editing: Proofread for grammar, spelling, and formatting errors.

Part 5: Submission
5. Citations and References: Include in-text citations in APA format and a reference list at the
end of your document.
o Follow APA guidelines for formatting your references.

Grading Criteria:
• Content (40 points): Relevance and depth of the review; integration of articles.
• Organization (30 points): Clarity of structure; logical flow of ideas.
• Writing Quality (20 points): Grammar, syntax, and adherence to APA format.
• Collaboration (10 points): Evidence of group collaboration and contribution.

Deadline for Submission: Oct. 21, 2024.
