Turret Mooring Systems with Swivel Stacks are considered the Favourable Solutions for most FPSOs to operate in Waters where Weathervaning Capabilities and/or Temporary Disconnect are required. More than 80 % of all FPSOs Currently Operating are Equipped with Swivel Stacks. Even in a Stable and Benign Environment, Turret/Swivel Systems may turn out to be the Preferred Solution. FPSOs are versatile and give operators great flexibility. The Swivel Stack should be selected based on similar requirements.

Independent supplier
Framo Engineering, is an independent supplier of swivel stacks for any turret configuration. Go with Framo Engineering and you will deal with innovative engineers in an organisation that is used to handling challenges in the fast lane. We listen to your needs. Our focus is on providing reliable and safe swivel stacks for maximum availability and flexibility. The unique sealing and bearing system, standardisation for any application, extremely high quality, control throughout and being a system supplier have enabled Framo to become the leading provider of high pressure swivels with installations world-wide. The swivels are traditionally included in the turret mooring suppliers scope, but may be supplied direct to the end user.

The Heart
The Swivel Stack is the heart of the turret mooring system. Reliability, safety and flexibility are key words to secure maximum up-time for the FPSO. The Framo Swivel Stacks have a remarkable track record, with no seal failures. The Framo Swivels are field proven, with 20 years + accumulated experience in extreme environments at very high pressures and throughput. Swivels are one of the most critical elements onboard a FPSO. The swivels will allow all fluids (liquids and gas), controls and power to be transferred safely from the geostationary parts (wells, flow-lines, manifolds, risers) to the rotating vessel and its process plant, under any environmental conditions at the field. By selecting the Framo Swivel Stack for your next FPSO, you will secure a safe and reliable production flow.

What make Framo Swivels unique?

Very compact and low weight, requiring minimum space and structural support Extremely high pressure capability (up to 520 bars) Very large throughput capacity (any size) Continuous condition monitoring of the swivel stack system, with Green light philosophy confirming system availability and providing safe operation Completely independent of process fluid and operating pressures Optimum seal operating conditions independent of pressure and temperature Remotely overpressured barrier fluid activated seals with clean hydraulic fluid Modularised and standardised design, with flexibility for the operator Standardised sealing system with double sealing between individual swivels and four dynamic seals from the process towards environment Only high quality duplex materials utilised in the swivels Low torque, with continuous lubrication of seals and bearings No internal piping or flanges, but use of channels in solid core Installed in a single lift onto FPSO

Selecting the highest quality of materials with prolonged service life is thus our priority.

How Framo Swivels work

The Framo Swivel Stack assembly consists of several sub-assemblies stacked on top of each other as shown on the sample illustration. The variety of combinations between standardized subassemblies provides the flexibility that fits your vessel.

The inner core is geostationary with the risers, turret and turret mounted piping. It consists of multiple Flow paths for transfer and distribution of the flow into the ring-volume, made up by the space between the intermediate ring (fixed to the inner core) and of the outlet ring, which again is connected to the shipboard process piping. Torque arms are connected to the outlet rings. The relative movement between the intermediate ring and the outlet ring is controlled by means of radial and axial bearings, and barrier fluid energised dynamic seals towards each flow path and towards the environment, preventing the flow from leaking out of the ring-volume to other paths or the environment. In fact, there are 4 dynamic seals from any path towards environment, a unique feature.

Flexibility
The Framo Swivel Stack system can be integrated into any turret system. Floating Production Vessels are flexible and versatile and may be used on a variety of fields. This versatility should be transferred to the selection and arrangement of swivels, and will require a Swivel Stack system that has a similar flexibility for the operator. The following aspects have been addressed through the Framo Swivel design:

Quality
Quality is our trademark. By performing all critical work inhouse, from design to delivery, we are in control throughout each contract. Our products are thoroughly tested before they are released, providing the required quality. The industry consider us as a leader in high-pressure swivel design.

Each swivel is independent of the process fluid All swivels can handle HP/HT applications Any swivel size available at almost any pressure Swivels may easily be added to existing stacks Internal comingling of production /injection Certified by all major Certifying Authorities Through utilization and combination of standard swivel sections, Framo is able to provide a swivel stack with the features, capacities and flexibility required for your FPSO. 5000 psi swivel stack

Research & Development

We are devoted to quality and reliability. We want to be the leading supplier within our line of business. Continuous R & D is therefore an important part of the Framo philosophy. We do not release any new technical solution or product without making sure that it meets our high quality standards. Extensive and realistic testing is integrated into our R & D programs, in order to continuously improve our products and to remain the leading swivel supplier. We want you to feel the comfort of knowing that the heart of your system will beat steadily, both today and tomorrow.

Total System Approach

Framo Engineering may supply additional components or systems integrated into the turret or the shipboard system, like: Trolley system for easy installation and disconnect Compact pig launcher/receiver arrangements Internal crossover arrangements to enable passage of fluids to other swivels Quick connect/disconnect connectors for risers and structures Compact manifold (MSM), including multiphase metering for swivel optimization Special swivel supports and riser hang off arrangements Interface piping spools upstream or downstream swivels Flexible piping arrangement Total system combining all above items

Manufacturing and Testing Facilities

Each swivel stack pass through a test program where all sub assemblies/subsystems are tested prior to final stack-up test and/or full integration test in the test dock, under controlled environment. The complete swivel stack, with all auxiliary systems, are tested at maximum pressures. A rotational test program is conducted as part of a standard test procedure, and the complete integrity of the stack is proven.

Utilization of Framo Engineerings advanced subsea technologies like multiphase metering, multiphase boosting, subsea process and power distribution systems may provide further flexibility in your field development and FPSO investment.
