Dolphins - Non-Fiction Comprehension
What animal can jump as high as a building, has a smile that never fades, and loves to play in
the water? If you guessed a dolphin, you are right! Dolphins are one of the most interesting
creatures in the ocean. They are smart, playful, and very beautiful. Let’s learn more about
these wonderful animals!
Dolphins are part of the whale family and have smooth, rubbery skin. They are usually a
mix of black, white, and grey colour. They have two fins on their sides, a triangular fin on
their back, and a flat and horizontal tail. Their tail helps them to swim quickly in the
water. Unlike fish, a dolphin’s tail moves up and down, allowing it to travel faster. Dolphins
also have an *insulating layer of fat under their skin called blubber, which keeps them
warm in the cold ocean waters.
Dolphins live in seas, oceans, and rivers around the world. They
are social creatures that prefer to live in groups called pods. These
pods can be made up of dolphins of all ages and sizes. Some dolphins, Dolphins in a pod
like the dusky dolphins, form huge groups called superpods, where over a thousand
dolphins live together.
Dolphins are truly amazing animals. From their playful jumping and beautiful colours to
their smart ways of catching food and living in pods, there is so much to love about dolphins.
