TOPIC 1: HAVE A GREAT TRIP!

Part 1
Do you like travelling?
Traveling has always been a passion of mine. It's more than just visiting new
places; it's a journey of self-discovery. Each destination offers a unique cultural
experience, a chance to step outside of one's comfort zone and broaden one's
horizons. I find it’s interesting in immersing myself in different cultures, learning
about local customs, and appreciating the beauty of diverse landscapes.
Do you like travel alone or in a group?
While I've enjoyed both solo and group travels, there's something incredibly
relaxing about traveling alone. Solo travel not only empowers you to develop
essential skills and transform you into a more confident person but also let you
plan your own trip without anyone interfering. It's a chance to disconnect from the
distractions of daily life, reflect on my experiences, and truly connect with myself
on a deeper level. Stepping outside of my comfort zone and embracing the
unexpected has led to some of my most memorable and rewarding travel
experiences.
When you visit new places, what do you like to do?
As someone who loves exploring new things, I often start with popular

destinations. I find that the recommendations from other travelers are a reliable

way to discover hidden gems. I also enjoy wandering through busy markets, trying
new foods, and interacting with the locals. I believe that the most authentic
experiences always come from the simplest things. Additionally, I'm always keen
to visit historical museums to gain a better understanding of the place’s cultural
and history.
Would you say your country is a good place for travelers to visit?
As a Vietnamese people, I would say “yes” without a doubt. Vietnam is a fantastic
destination for travelers. With its rich history, stunning natural beauty, and vibrant
culture, it offers something for everyone. From the most crowded cities like Hanoi
Ho Chi Minh City to the peaceful landscapes of Ha Long Bay and Sapa, Vietnam
boasts a diverse range of attractions. The country's friendly people, delicious
cuisine, and affordable cost of living make it an ideal choice for both budget
travelers and luxury seekers.

Part 2
A few years ago, when I was about 16 years old, I went on a backpacking trip with
a group of friends to Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park. We spent a day hiking
through the cave, camping and exploring the stunning natural beauty. The journey
was physically demanding, but the rewards were well worth it.
I remember this journey fondly because of the friendship and shared experiences
with my friends. We faced challenges together, such as navigating difficult terrain
and dealing with unexpected weather conditions. These experiences helped to
strengthen our bonds and create lasting memories. The breathtaking scenery of
Phong Nha – Ke Bang also made this trip unforgettable.

Part 3
Do you think it’s true that travel broadens the mind?
Yes, of course. Traveling allows us to experience different ways of
life, values, and beliefs. This exposure can challenge our own
assumptions and help us develop a more nuanced understanding
of the world. Traveling can also provide opportunities for personal
growth, self-discovery, and learning. When we interact with
people from different backgrounds, we can learn to appreciate
their experiences and perspectives.
How have holidays changed over the past few decades?

Downloaded by trannga (cuonghiepkhoi@gmail.com)

Holidays have undergone significant transformations over the
past few decades. Due to the rise of cheap air travel and budget
accommodations has made it easier for people to travel to distant
destinations. This has led to an increase of international tourism
and a wider range of holiday options. And on a positive note,
there has been a growing awareness of the environmental impact
of tourism, and many travelers are now seeking more sustainable
and eco-friendly options.
Do you think it is safer to travel now than in the past?
In my opinion, it's generally safer to travel now compared to the
past. Due to advancements in transportation, communication, and
healthcare infrastructure, traveling has become safer and safer.
Roads, airports, and medical facilities are often more reliable and
accessible. Moreover, improved communication technology has
made it easier to stay connected with loved ones and seek
assistance if needed.
Why do some people prefer to travel abroad rather than in their
own country?
I think the decision of whether to travel abroad or within one's
own country is a personal one that depends on individual hobby.
Traveling to foreign countries offers the opportunity to experience
different cultures, customs, and traditions. This can be exciting
and enriching for many people. Futhermore, traveling abroad can
also offer a chance to escape from the routine and stress of
everyday life. It can be a relaxing and rejuvenating experience. In
some cases, it may be more affordable to travel abroad than to
travel within one's own country. This can be due to factors such
as lower costs of living or cheaper flights.

TOPIC 2: MY OWN TIME

What do you do in your spare time? Since I’m a huge fan of TV series, there's
nothing better than sitting on the sofa with a good TV show or movie in my leisure
time. It's my favorite way to relax and feel better.

How do you usually spend your weekends? As I mentioned before, my
weekends are all about binge-watching. I could easily spend an entire day lost in
my favorite shows, exploring different types from horror to romance. That’s how I
enjoy my weekends. However, I also make sure to balance my own relationship,
sometimes I also spend time hanging out with my family and friends.
What do you usually do after work or classes? After a busy day, I love to escape
into the world of television. Watching a few episodes of my favorite show is like
hitting the reset button; it helps me relax and feel refreshed.
Do you prefer to spend your free time alone or with other people? As an
introverted person, I definitely enjoy spending my free time alone. Without being
distracted by external factors, I can focus more on myself, I can explore new
hobbies, learn new skills, or simply relaxing after a tiring day at work. It’s so
peaceful to be able to do what I want without anyone bothering me.

Part 2
With the rapid development of technology, a multitude of video games have been
created with various genres and different levels of attraction, becoming one of the
top entertainments in free time. I am also a big fan of video games, I typically
spend 3-4 hours per week but on holidays, I play almost every day. The
convenience of gaming is undeniable; players can immerse themselves in virtual
worlds from the comfort of their own homes. Moreover, gaming offers a social
aspect, allowing individuals to connect with like-minded peers and relieve stress
after a long tiring day. While some may think that playing games is pointless, but
personally, I firmly believe that it can serve as a valuable tool for cognitive
development, fostering creativity and facilitating social interactions. These benefits
contribute to my enduring enthusiasm for gaming."

Part 3
1. Is leisure time important to everyone? Why?
Absolutely! Everyone needs some time to relax, no matter who they are or what
they do. They offer a much-needed escape from the hustle and bustle. Whether it's
painting, gardening, or playing a musical instrument, hobbies are like mini-
vacations for our brains. They help us relax, recharge, and get creative.
2. Do women have more leisure time than men?

Downloaded by trannga (cuonghiepkhoi@gmail.com)

While there is no definitive answer to the question of whether women have more
leisure time than men, it is clear that there has been a growing movement toward
gender equality, and many women are now pursuing careers and participating in
the workforce. This not only has led to greater economic independence for women
but also blurred the lines between work and personal life. As a result, women may
have more responsibilities overall, leaving them with less leisure time.
3. How has the way we spend free time charged over the years?
The way we spend our leisure time has undergone a dramatic transformation over
the past few decades. Technological advancements, changing social norms, and
economic factors have significantly reshaped how we relax, entertain ourselves,
and connect with others. From the rise of digital entertainment to the increasing
popularity of experiential activities, our leisure have become more diverse and
individualized than ever before.
4. How does technology affect the way people spend their leisure time?
Technology has significantly affected the way we spend our leisure time. With the
advent of smartphones, computers, and the internet, we now have access to a vast
array of entertainment options and communication tools. For instance, we can
stream movies, listen to music, and engage in online gaming. Moreover, we can
connect with friends and family from around the globe. Technology has rendered
our leisure time more convenient and engaging.

TOPIC 3: DIGITAL WORLD

Part 1
What electronic devices have you bought lately?

I haven't bought any new electronic devices lately. I'm still using the same laptop
and smartphone that I've had for the past few years. I'm generally happy with them
and don't feel the need to upgrade.

What technology do you often use, computers or cell phones?

I use both computers and cell phones, but I probably use my cell phone more often.
It's just more convenient to have it with me all the time. I use my cell phone for
everything from checking email and browsing the web to taking photos and
listening to music.

Downloaded by trannga (cuonghiepkhoi@gmail.com)

How much time do you often spend on the Internet?

I spend a lot of time on the Internet. I'm usually online for several hours a day. I
use the Internet for work, for entertainment, and for staying connected with
friends and family.

What do you usually do when you are on the Internet?

When I'm on the Internet, I usually do a variety of things. I might check my email,
browse the news, watch videos, or listen to music. I also like to use social media
and chat with friends online.

Part 2
Describe a piece of technology that you find useful.

I find smartphones to be an indispensable part of my daily life. It's a small,

portable device that fits in my pocket. With a smartphone, I can access information
from anywhere in the world, stay connected with friends and family, and create
digital content. One of the most useful features is its ability to take high-quality
photos and videos.

I use my smartphone several times a day. It has become so integrated into my

routine that I can't imagine living without it. Whether I'm commuting to work,
waiting for an appointment, or relaxing at home, I always have my smartphone
within reach.

I find smartphones so useful because it offers a level of convenience and efficiency

that was unimaginable just a few years ago. It has saved me time, reduced stress,
and expanded my knowledge. For example, I can use my smartphone to navigate
to a new location, order food online, and learn a new language.

In conclusion, smartphones have had a profound impact on my life. It has

enhanced my productivity, enriched my relationships, and opened up a world of
possibilities. I am grateful for the advancements in technology that have made
smartphones a reality.

Part 3
Do you believe that people today rely too much on technology?

Downloaded by trannga (cuonghiepkhoi@gmail.com)

It's undeniable that today society has become overly reliant on technology. From
work to leisure, communication to everyday tasks, smartphones and computers
have become indispensable tools. However, this overdependence has led to a
concerning decline in our ability to function without these devices. As a result, we
risk losing vital skills and becoming increasingly vulnerable to technological
disruptions.

Do you enjoy sharing personal information and photos on social media? Why? /
Why not?

I am not comfortable sharing personal information or photos on social media. I

think it is important to protect your privacy and to be careful about what
information you share online. Once information is shared digitally, it becomes
publicly accessible forever. Additionally, I view social media as a potential
negative influence on individuals. It can contribute to cyberbullying, addiction,
and feelings of isolation.

Which social-media apps do you use the most?

As an introvert, I find that social interaction can be draining. Therefore, I prefer to

limit my use of social media platforms. When I do use social media, I gravitate
towards platforms that allow me to connect with others in a more one-on-one
setting, such as messaging apps. I also enjoy platforms that focus on sharing
creative content, as it gives me an outlet for self-expression without the pressure of
constant social interaction.

What do you think are the trends in technology today compared to when you were
young?

Technology has changed a lot since I was a child. In the past, computers were not
very common, and there was no internet. Today, almost everyone has a
smartphone and is always connected to the internet. I think the most important
technological trend of our time is the rapid growth of artificial intelligence. AI is
becoming more and more advanced and is being used in many different areas, from
self-driving cars to medical diagnosis.

TOPIC 4: SHOW TIME

Part 1

Do you like listening to music?

I do like listening to music. I find it to be a great way to relax and unwind. I also
enjoy listening to music while I am working or studying, as it can help me to focus
and concentrate.

What kind of music do you like listening to the most?

I listen to a variety of music genres, but pop with its energetic beats is my absolute
favorite. Currently, I’m into Rosé's new song 'APT' collaboration with Bruno Mars.
The quick tempo and infectious chorus are everything I love about pop music. But
sometimes, o switch things up, I also enjoy listening to jazz or classical music.
How much time do you spend listening to music every day?
It depends on my daily schedule. On days when I have a lot of homework or work
to do, I usually don't listen to music so I can concentrate as much as possible. On
the other hand, on days when I'm free or in a good mood, I can spend the whole
day immersing myself in music.
Do you play any kinds of musical instruments? What are they?
Well, it’s a pity that I didn’t. I’ve always wished I’d taken up a musical instrument.
I’d love to be able to play the guitar but I think I have no potential to play it. I’m a
bit tone deaf so perhaps I’d find it hard to put my idea in practice.

Part 2
One of the most memorable concerts I have attended was a performance by the
iconic rock band Guns N' Roses. The concert took place at the Coachella Valley
Music and Arts Festival a few years ago. I went with a group of friends who were
just as excited as I was to see one of our favorite bands live.
The energy at the festival was palpable. The crowd was massive, and everyone
was eager to see the headliners. As Guns N' Roses took the stage, the crowd
erupted into cheers and applause. Axl Rose, with his powerful voice and
charismatic stage presence, commanded the attention of the entire audience. The
band played a mix of their classic hits and newer material, and the crowd sang
along to every word.
The atmosphere was electric, with the music pulsating through the air and the
crowd jumping and dancing. The band's musicianship was perfect, and their energy

was compelling. It was a night of pure rock and roll, and it was an experience that I
will never forget.

Part 3
Why are many music competitions popular in Vietnam?
Vietnamese people take great pride in their country's cultural achievements,
including music. Music competitions serve as a platform to showcase Vietnamese
talent to the world and foster a sense of national pride. Participating in music
competitions can also be beneficial for young musicians' development. It helps
them improve their skills, gain experience, and learn from professional judges and
mentors.
What kind of music do people like at different ages?
I think old people love the feeling of nostalgia, which means that they tend to
listen back to old songs that bring them good memories. Meanwhile, youngsters
are subjected to the people surrounding them. They may turn to love a song simply
because people around them listen to that song. The fear of being left behind
makes them constantly update to new trendy songs.
However, it doesn’t mean that people in a certain age group listen to a particular
genre of music. The ultimate aim of music is to touch people’s hearts regardless of
their age, sex, or race.
Do parents in your country require their children to learn and to play musical
instruments?
Music plays a pivotal role in Vietnamese culture, permeating various aspects of
daily life. From traditional folk songs to contemporary pop hits, music serves as a
source of entertainment, expression, and social cohesion. Vietnamese parents often
recognize the cultural significance of music and actively encourage their children
to learn and play musical instruments. This emphasis on music education is rooted
in the belief that it fosters not only artistic skills but also essential qualities such as
discipline, creativity, and intellectual development.
Why do some people like to listen to live music while others prefer CDs?
Well, it is true that with the development of technology nowadays, the quality of
records is undeniably impressive. Meanwhile, some singers are not good at doing
live singing, which explains why a group of people get a kick out of staying at

home and listening to music via electric devices. In contrast, it seems more
interactive and intriguing to participate in a musical concert. The audience is not
only able to see their idols in real life, but also immerse themselves in a dynamic
atmosphere.

TOPIC 5: LIFE LESSONS

Part 1
I'm currently pursuing a degree in Investment Economics at our university. It's no
surprise that I chose this field, as it's almost a family tradition, and I have immense
support from my parents. Moreover, my passion and curiosity for finance and the
stock market have also contributed to this decision. Because of my love for this
subject, I dedicate at least 2-3 hours each day to studying and exploring. This
includes attending lectures, participating in seminars, completing assignments, and
engaging in independent research. Unlike some of my peers who are still uncertain
about their career choices, I can say with certainty that I am serious about pursuing
this field. With the knowledge and skills I'm gaining at university, I believe that
although the future may be challenging, I will be well-prepared to become a
successful investment professional.

Part 2
One of the most important lessons I have learned in my life is the value of true
friendship. I learned this lesson during my university years when I formed a close
bond with a group of friends. We were all from different backgrounds and had
different personalities, but we shared a common passion for learning and exploring
new things. We spent countless hours together studying, attending lectures, and
socializing. We supported each other through difficult times and celebrated each
other's successes. We were always there for each other, no matter what. Through
my experiences with this group of friends, I learned that true friendship is based
on mutual respect, trust, and support. It is a relationship that enriches your life in
countless ways. I am grateful for the friendships I have formed over the years, and
I know that they will continue to be an important part of my life.

Part 3
Do you agree that we learn best from our mistakes?

Downloaded by trannga (cuonghiepkhoi@gmail.com)

People say that the mistakes we make are our best teachers because they can teach
us many things. In fact, some of the most important life lessons, we would ever
learn, will be from our mistakes or bad decisions. So, I do agree with the
suggestion that we learn best from our mistakes, however, it is important to note
that not all mistakes are created equal. Some mistakes can be more harmful than
others, and it is important to learn from them in a way that is constructive.
What’s the best way to gain experience in life?
Different people have different ways to gain experience in life. Some people prefer
to travel to new places and meet new people. Others find that volunteering in their
community is a rewarding way to gain experience. Still others believe that the best
way to gain experience is to take on new challenges at work or school. For me, the
best way to gain life experience is to embrace challenges. Every trial, whether
successful or not, offers valuable lessons that contribute to our personal growth
and maturity.
Can we gain life experience from books and movies? Why/ Why not?
No, we can’t really gain life experiences from books and movies mainly because
one actually has to live through real-life situations in order to gain experience. No
doubt that books and movies can present some real stories and experiences of
individuals in a very rational and realistic manner except, of course, the problem is
each and every person in this world is different with different mindsets, skills,
abilities and talents. Therefore, just because one individual experiences something
in a certain situation, it doesn’t necessarily mean that another person will
experience the same thing in the same manner.
What experience do you wish you had gained? Why do you think so?
Well, I am lucky that I really have some great experiences in my life, but more is
always better. Isn’t it? So, sometimes, I really wish that I had the experience of
travelling at least two to three countries from each continent in order to experience
what this beautiful world has in store for us. Besides, I also want to be able to write
on my own travel experiences as well in my own website, which I am planning to
launch in near future, in addition to the experiences of other travellers in my
country. Besides, I wish I were able to write the way some good writers can tell
their stories.
