Introductory Message

For the facilitator:

Welcome to the TLE 10 – Technical Drafting Module on Preparing

Plan Using CAD!

This Self-Learning Module was collaboratively designed, developed and

reviewed by educators from the Schools Division Office of Pasig City headed
by its Officer-in-Charge Schools Division Superintendent, Ma. Evalou
Concepcion A. Agustin, in partnership with the City Government of Pasig
through its mayor, Honorable Victor Ma. Regis N. Sotto. The writers utilized
the standards set by the K to 12 Curriculum using the Most Essential
Learning Competencies (MELC) in developing this instructional resource.

This learning material hopes to engage the learners in guided and

independent learning activities at their own pace and time. Further, this also
aims to help learners acquire the needed 21st century skills especially the 5
Cs, namely: Communication, Collaboration, Creativity, Critical Thinking, and
Character while taking into consideration their needs and circumstances.

In addition to the material in the main text, you will also see this box
in the body of the module:

Notes to the Teacher

This contains helpful tips or strategies that
will help you in guiding the learners.

As a facilitator you are expected to orient the learners on how to use

this module. You also need to keep track of the learners' progress while
allowing them to manage their own learning. Moreover, you are expected to
encourage and assist the learners as they do the tasks included in the module.
5

For the learner:

LO2.1.14 3D MODELING

3D modeling is the process of creating 3D representation of any surface or object in

three dimensions by manipulating edges, polygons and vertices using 3D modeling
software such as AutoCAD. In architectural drawings, perspectives are well
appreciated using 3D drawings especially when rendered because it increase visual
perception.

TYPES OF 3D MODELS
Several types of 3D modeling are available in AutoCAD. Each of these 3D modeling
technologies offer a different set of capabilities. 3D modeling in AutoCAD includes
wireframes, 3D solids, surfaces, and meshes.
8

1. Wireframe modeling is useful for initial design iterations and as reference

geometry, serving as a 3D framework for subsequent modeling or modification.
2. Solid modeling is efficient to use, easy to combine primitives and extruded
profiles, and offers mass properties and sectioning capabilities.
3. Surface modeling offers fine control over curved surfaces for precise
manipulation and analysis.
4. Mesh modeling provides freeform sculpting, creasing, and smoothing
capabilities.
To start with 3D modeling, change first the workspace.

1. At the bottom right

corner of the AutoCad
interface, click on the
Workspace Switching icon
(see Figure 1) and select from
workspace option the 3D
Modeling workspace (see
Figure 2).

2. This time, the 2D

Ribbon tab will change to 3D
Ribbon tabs (see Figure 3b).

SOLID PRIMITIVES
AutoCAD Solid primitives are basic 3D shapes in solid form such
as box, cylinder, cone, sphere, pyramid, wedge, and torus.

OTHER 3D SOLID MODELLING COMMANDS

Aside from AutoCAD Solid primitives, there are other 3D commands available that
can be used to create solids from 2D objects.
