Resource Person

Is one who has knowledge,relevant skills and expertise to give a talk,guidance or first hand information
in a given subject area.

He or she is well versed with the subject matter.

A Resource Person can be drawn from the community,someone with adequate knowledge on a
particular topic either as a professional or through practical experience.

He or she is expected to explain concepts or topics to the learners as an expect with specialized
knowledge in that area of aspect life or fields.

Advantages of a Resource Person

1.the method is fascinating to learners who are excited to see experts or professionals like bankers,
authors who comes to teach a lesson or concept.

2.lt motivates and sustains the interest of the learner in that subject area.

3.lt exposes learners with broad knowledge of the subject matter when expects in the field give them
first hand information which the teach might not included in his or her lesson notes or not be well
versed in the subject topic.

4.lt is believed that information from a Resource Person is current and authentic than that contained I
the book.

5.It also boasts the relation between the school and the community as the Resource Person feel
honored and being part of the school community.

Disadvantages for a Resource Person

1.Time may not be sufficient for the Resource Person to exhaust all the information that might be he or
she having for learners for that particular lesson.The Resource Person might be late at times.

-Time allocated to him or her might filter onto other lessons and causes problems I school programs.

2.The Resource Person may disappoint you by not turning up.


c.The Resource Person might not have requisite,qualifications or pedagogical skills of handling
learners,this might embarrass her or him.

Points to note when using a Resource Person.

-Allow learners to talk to the Resource Person freely when they want to ask questions.

-provide a vehicle or platform for te learners to use the information they would have to obtained in a
follow up section, it be a written documentation of producing of providing a forum for the information
to be shared with other learners.

-Make prior arrangements or preparations to enhance the benefits to be obtained from using a
Resource Person.

-Ensure that the pple u invite are not in conflict or hidden agendas with the learners.

-Avoid over using one person as a resource.

-Talk to your Resource Person or guest about the procedure and the content to be followed b4 hand or
during the presentation.

-The Resource Person should know the target audience,the learners,age range and background before
hand.

-Make necessary preparations in advance.
