INTRODUCTION
The word ‘PSPICE’ is an acronym for ‘PC based simulation program with integrated circuit emphasis’
SPICE for windows provides a fully integrated environment to capture analog/digital circuits directly on the
monitor, simulate the circuit action, and analyze the results in graphical form. It is easy to learn and simple to
use.
THEORY
THE CIRCUIT ANALYSIS PROCESS:
Under the Design Center software package umbrella there are three major interactive programs: Schematics,
PSPICE, and Probe. These programs are used to design, modify, or analyze a circuit. We call on these
programs during a four-step process: draw the circuit under Schematics, select the mode of analysis under
Schematics, simulate the circuit under PSPICE, and display the results under Probe.
First, you have to CLICKL on ‘place’ from the main menu then CLICKL on ‘Part’ as in Figure 1. On place
part window, type the Part Name or Description then DCLICKL on your selected component as in Figure
2.
Figure 1 Figure 2
After you get the part you want, place it in the workspace. Repeat this till you get all what you need, then
CLICKL on the ‘x’ button of the place part screen to close it.
After closing the window, place the components in an ordered way. CLICKL on the component, it will be
highlighted in red and then DRAG it to the location you want. Do the same for all parts. Some times you
need to rotate a part by pressing ‘R’ on the keyboard or you need flip the part CLICKR then select ‘mirror
horizontally’ or ‘mirror vertically’. (Remember that the part to be rotated/flipped is highlighted red and
therefore already selected)
Figure 3
After you position every part in the desired place, connect it using wires by clicking on the icon shown in Fig
3. Now CLICKL on the one box terminal of the part and drag (no need to click hold and drag) the cursor to
the other box terminal of the other part or to an existing wire then let a red dot appears and then CLICKL to
complete the connection. Repeat this till you connect all points required to be connected .
To change an attribute that is presently displayed, DCLICKL on the part's attribute to bring up the Display
Property Value dialog box of Fig. 5. Because the value written is highlighted in blue, any key entry will
automatically delete and overwrite the old value. Now you should choose the type of display format you
need .
Figure 5
Before simulation, you have to save the schematic file by CLICKL on the disk button then CLICKL
on the edit run button and also CLICKL on and buttons to view simulation results values for
dc node voltages and dc line currents as shown in figure 6.
Figure 6
In other cases, you have to CLICKL on SPICE from the menu then CLICKL on edit simulation which will
be discussed on the next experiment about SPICE.
ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES
Example 1: It is required from you to draw the circuit shown in Fig. 8 and to find all nodes voltages
and all currents in the circuit. This circuit contains one voltage controlled voltage sources (VCVS) and
one voltage controlled current source (VCCS). Figure 9 shows the SPICE diagrams of these dependent
sources. Each diagram is divided into a voltmeter at the left side and a source (voltage or current) at the
right side. The voltmeter must be connected in parallel to the required voltage that is to be measured,
while the sources side is connected according to the circuit. The SPICE diagram for this circuit is shown
in Figure 10.

1) Use CADENCE- SPICE to analyze the circuit of figure 14 and determine the following:
a) Magnitude and polarity of current I1 as per given current direction.
b) Magnitude and polarity of current Ix as per given current direction
