Ans. Plant Kingdom, animal kingdom and human beings.

Ans. The main trees are pine, fir spruce, larch etc.
Q5. Why do animals in the polar region have thick fur on their bodies?
Ans.In the polar region the animals have thick fur on their body to protect them from the
cold.

Q1. Why are equatorial forests known as evergreen forests? Give a few examples of trees
found there.
Ans. These areas receive heavy rainfall throughout the year and temperature remains
very high. So these forests remain green throughout the year.For
example:-Ebony,rubber,Rosewood ,mahogany etc.
Q2. What role do plants play in ecological balance?
Ans2.Plants absorb carbon dioxide gas from the environment to make their food and
release oxygen. They are also a big source of shelter for many organisms and an
important part of food chains within an ecosystem.
Q3. Distinguish between tropical and temperate grasslands.
Ans3. Tropical grasslands:-. 1.They are located between the equatorial forests and
hot deserts in both hemispheres.
2.These grasslands receive
about 100cm of rainfall.
3. The grasses of these regions are very rough, thick and tall.
Temperate grasslands:-
1. These grasslands are located in the temperate zone and in the interior part of the
continents.
2. These grasslands receive about 25 to 75 cm rainfall.
3. The grasses of these regions are very short and soft.
Q4. Differentiate between hot and cold deserts.
Ans4. Hot deserts:- 1.They are located on the Western margins of the continents.
2. The temperature remains very high throughout the year.
3. Cactus, shrubs and bushes are common vegetation of the area. 4.Sand and sand
dunes are common features.
5. The Sahara desert in Africa, the Thar desert in India and the Atacama in South America
are hot deserts.
6. People wear white and loose clothes.
Cold deserts:- 1.They are located around the polar regions.
2.The temperature remains below the freezing point.
3. Mosses and lichens are common vegetation.
4.Snowfall and ice caps are common features.
5. The Northern part of Siberia in Russia and the northern part of Canada are called cold
deserts.
6. People wear woollen clothes.
Q5. What are the various problems related to the ecological imbalance? What steps
should we take to solve them?
Ans5. The various problems related to ecological imbalance are:-
1. In the wildlife community a few species like tigers, lions etc are already facing the
danger of extinction.
2.The pollution level in different countries is rising.
3. There is a rise in global temperature.
4. A few glaciers have also started melting.
Steps we should take to solve them:-
1. Afforestation should be taken up on a large scale.
2.Hunting of animals should be strictly banned.
3. The government has set up wildlife sanctuaries, national parks and biosphere
reserves.

Ans:- kindness,humanity, awareness about surroundings.
Q2:- How far do you agree/ disagree with those who justify destruction of nature and

Ans:- Yes,we disagree with the statement. Because this destruction gives us happiness
and satisfaction only for the short-term. But in the long-term it has a negative effect on
us.
