Doom + expansion: foam core inserts

Created by BGG user PhilipJohnHeath – feel free to distribute although an acknowledgement to me

would be nice!

General notes:

This is for both Doom and the expansion.

This is using 5mm thick black foam core. I found it at my local art supplies shop.

You’ll need: 1 x A0 size sheet of foam core OR 2 x A1 size sheets OR 3 x A2 sheets OR 6 x A3 sheets. If
you can only get A4 size you’ll need to adapt.

You’ll also need: A rule (or ruler), pencil, set square, blades, hobby glue, lots and lots of pins, something
to cut on (those big green cutting boards are great – try your local haberdashery).

You’ll also need: time. From memory I spent a handful of hours each night – perhaps not every night –
spread out over a couple of weeks to complete this.

Everything is placed on top of each base (i.e., nothing is glued to the side of the base pieces).

I’ve used centimetres (cm) throughout. All diagrams are looking down on the trays.

I didn’t use a 90° blade thing (I wish I had!). I used cheap blades. As such some of the measurements
might be out by ±1-2mm. All the measurements provided here were from the finished product (I
couldn’t find my original notes).

None of the schematic diagrams are to scale. I made them in Microsoft Paint as guides only. Little gaps
where the walls meet in the diagrams indicate which way around the pieces go. In reality there should
be no gaps: the pieces should sit flush.

Really it should be pretty self-explanatory.

I haven’t provided a template as to how you should cut all the pieces out from the foam core. However I
suggest starting with cutting out the big base pieces first, then the side bits, then all the little bits. You
may like to cut out everything prior to gluing, bag them all up and label them before sticking them
together. Up to you.

When I first did this I hadn’t sleeved the cards. They’re sleeved now. It still fits although is much tighter.
Make sure your pieces fit before gluing anything!

If you haven’t done any foam core work before I strongly recommend you watch some videos first.
There are plenty online.

Yes with this design the lid to the expansion box won’t fully close (see the thread on BGG for more
photos). If anyone designs an elegant solution to store all the invaders in the expansion box I’m all ears!

G 4.3cm x 2.2cm (x3)

H 2.0cm x 1.6cm (x2)

I 2.6cm x 2.2cm (x2)

Special instructions: I haven’t included all the measurements for the Marine tokens + dice area. Use the
pieces to guide where to glue the D bits in best.
Doors + corridor ends tray

BASE 29.2cm x 8.1cm

A 29.2cm x 5.4cm

B 7cm x 5.4cm (x5)

C 7cm x 7cm (x3)

Notes: Paste three Cs into the hole for the corridor ends. This’ll make it easier to get them out.
Many tokens tray

BASE 29cm x 20.9cm

A 19.9cm x 2.7cm (x2)

B 29cm x 2.7cm

C 24cm x 2.7cm

D 2.7cm x 2.7cm

E 1.6cm x 19.9cm (x7)

F 10cm x 1.6cm (x2)

G 7.2cm x 1.6cm

H 0.4cm x 1.6cm (x2)

I 2.8cm x 1.6cm (x17)

J 2.7cm x 1.6cm (x10)

K 1.4cm x 1.6cm (x3)

L 1.4cm x 1.6cm x 0.25cm (x3) (these need to be thin: cut some Ks lengthways…)

M 7.5cm x 1.6cm

Notes: I hope you have as much fun as I did trying to sort this out :D Pin everything in place and make
sure everything fits before any gluing. I discovered after gluing them in that those L pieces had to be
shaved smaller.

The photos should contain enough information to work out where everything goes.

BASE 29cm x 29.5cm

A 27.8cm x 1.6cm (x2)

B 29cm x 1.6 (x2)

C 9.7cm x 1.6cm

D 4.3cm x 1.6cm

E 9.5cm x 1.6cm

L 2.2cm x 1.6cm

M 7.6cm x 1.6cm

N 6.5cm x 1.6cm (x2)

O 2.9cm x 1.6cm

Notes: I haven’t included measurements on the diagram for this. It’s quite a tight fit, so I recommend
putting the room pieces in place as per the second photo below, then fitting the foam core in between
them. Pin them in place, take the room pieces out, mark the positions with a pencil, then glue them in
place.
Rooms tray 2

BASE 29cm x 29cm

A 29cm x 0.9cm

B 28cm x 0.9cm

C 13.9cm x 0.9cm

Notes: as per the previous tray.

C 27.5cm x 1.0cm (x2)

D 8.8cm x 1.0cm (x18)

E 3.2cm x 1.0cm (x6)

F 2.2cm x 1.0cm (x6)

G 4.6cm x 1.0cm (x3)

Invaders Tray 2

BASE 29cm x 28.5cm

A 28.5cm x 5.0cm (x2)

B 27.5cm x 5.0cm (x2)

C 27.5cm x 3.1cm (x2)

D 8.5cm x 3.1cm (x9)

Notes: I haven’t measured the length of each space (d’oh). Place the Invaders in as per the photo below
and fit the foam core pieces D around them. Yes you’ll need to pull apart the big dude.
