1. What single resistor is equivalent to the five-resistor circuit shown below?

Ans.: 0.718 kΩ

2. Determine the voltage across each of the resistors in the following circuit and the power
dissipated in each of them.

Ans.: 2 V/4 mW, 4 V/8 mW, and 8 V/16 mW

3. Choose R1 so that voltage Y = 0.25X.

Ans.: 12 kΩ

4. Choose R1 and R2 so that voltage Y = 0.1X and R1 + R2 = 10 MΩ.

13. In the circuit below, (a) what would happen if the load resistor RL were shorted? (b) What would
happen if the load resistor were removed? Think in terms of power ratings. Breakdown voltage
of the Zener diode is 5.1 V

14. In the Zener diode voltage regulator shown below: (a) determine the range of load resistance RL
over which the circuit gives a constant Vout when Vs = 150 V. (b) If RL is fixed at 10 kΩ, over what
range of Vs does the circuit regulate (maintain constant output voltage)? Rs = 1500 Ω, the diode
breakdown voltage is 100 V and its maximum rated current is 100 mA.

15. Determine the operating point (IB, IC, VCE) of the transistor when Vcc = 15 V, R1 = 10 kΩ, R2 = 2.2
kΩ, Rc = 680 Ω, and Re = 100 Ω. Assume β = 200 and Vbe = 0.7 V.

Ans.: IB = 90.4 μA, IC = 18.1 mA, VCE = 0.873 V

16. For the circuit shown below, find Vout as a function of V in and determine the input impedance of
the circuit.

Ans.: Vout = -10Vin, Zin = 10 kΩ


17. Derive an expression for the output voltage of the circuit shown below in terms of the four input
voltages. Simplify your result as much as possible.

Ans.: Vout = V3 + V4 – V1 – V2
18. For the circuit shown below, find current flowing through the ammeter, when Vin = 3V and R1 = 1
kΩ. Assume the meter has zero internal resistance.

Ans.: I = 1 mA
19. Determine the output voltage in the circuit shown below.

Ans.: Vout = -1.5V
