Album: Instant Gratification

Tabbed by: Kavan Chay
E-mail: therandomcrapguitar@gmail.com
Tuning: E Standard

Hey! So after so long being lazy as ****, I decided to do this, since this has been requested a lot,
and people seemed keen for me to try transcribe the whole album.

Intro: Note that I screwed this up in my cover. This is the revised version.

First section:
(2 bars each of these chords- Also, the pattern is the same for these chords here, so I have written
the chord only. You'll figure it out; it's not straight quavers, I don't think.)
e|---------------------------------|-----|------------------------------------|
B|--9---9--9---9--9----9---9---9---|--8--|------------------------------------|
G|--8---8--8---8--8----8---8---8---|--8--|--7---------------------------------|
D|--10--10-10--10-10---10--10--10--|--6--|--5---------------------------------|
A|--8---8--8---8--8----8---8---8---|--8--|--7---------------------------------|
E|---------------------------------|-----|--5---------------------------------|

First ending:
(let the single notes ring out)

e|-(4)-(4)-------------------------------------------------------------------|
B|--6---6---6-6--6-6----6----------------------------------------------------|
G|--5---5---5-5--5-5-----5---------------------------------------------------|
D|--6---6---6-6--6-6------6--------------------------------------------------|
A|--4---4---4-4--4-4---------------------------------------------------------|
E|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|

Repeat the first section, then:

Second ending:
(let the end chord ring out)

e|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
B|--6--6---6-6--6------------------------------------------------------------|
G|--5--5---5-5--5------------------------------------------------------------|
D|--6--6---6-6--6------------------------------------------------------------|
A|--4--4---4-4--4------------------------------------------------------------|
E|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|

Intro, done.

Chorus: For one guitar, you just repeat the intro again.

For the other guitar- you wait until the first guitar runs through the first half of the chords, and
then the lead kicks in as follows:
First section (chorus lead):

e|-------------------------------|-------------------------------------------|
B|-------20----------------------|-------20----------------------------------|
G|-15s17---17s15---15---------15-|-15s17---17s15---15---------15-------------|
D|--------------17---17-15-17----|--------------17---17-15-17----------------|
A|-------------------------------|-------------------------------------------|
E|-------------------------------|-------------------------------------------|

First ending:

e|--------------------------------------------|------------------------------|
B|--------------------------------------------|------------------------------|
G|--17h15--15------17h15--15------17h15--15---|----17h15--15-15s17-----------|
D|-------17--17-15------17--17-15------17--17-|-15------17-------------------|
A|--------------------------------------------|------------------------------|
E|--------------------------------------------|------------------------------|

Repeat the first section (chorus lead), and then:

Second ending:

e|--------------------------------------------|------------------------------|
B|--------------------------------------------|------------------------------|
G|--17h15--15------17h15--15------17h15--15---|--15-15s17~-------------------|
D|-------17--17-15------17--17-15------17--17-|------------------------------|
A|--------------------------------------------|------------------------------|
E|--------------------------------------------|------------------------------|

Boom! Chorus is done.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Clean section (verse 2? I don't even know what to call it):

So it splits off into two guitars; subtle delay and chorus, and cleans!

Guitar 1:
(I think I bent a full tone i.e. to the pitch of the 10th fret on the G string)

e|---------------|-----------------------------------------------------------|
B|--9--8--9--8h9-|--9--8-----------------------------------------------------|
G|--8--8--8------|--8--8---8br-----------------------------------------------|
D|--10-10-10-----|--10-10----------------------------------------------------|
A|--8--8--8------|--8--8-----------------------------------------------------|
E|---------------|-----------------------------------------------------------|

Repeat three times. That's it for this guitar.

===============================================
Guitar 2:
A bit more complicated. I'm going to split this into two bits: A, and B. Use some vibrato on the
ringing notes; you want it sounding ambient etc.

A:
e|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
B|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
G|----10--12-13-12-----------------------------------------------------------|
D|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
A|--8------------------------------------------------------------------------|
E|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|

B:
e|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
B|-------------------13h14h13------------------------------------------------|
G|----10--12-13-12-----------------------------------------------------------|
D|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
A|--8------------------------------------------------------------------------|
E|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|

Now, play A once, then B, and then A twice, i.e. ABAA. This is ONE repeat. Repeat this three times,
i.e. ABAA/ABAA/ABAA

Hope that made sense.

Done for this part.

Clean section (muted picking):

I split this off again, because it's easier to learn in chunks.

I muted the 12th fret notes on the G string just enough to not kill the note's sound, but not let it
sustain either. It's something I can't quite explain well enough in writing; just experiment.

e|----------------------|----------------------------------------------------|
B|-------------------13-|----------------------------------------------------|
G|-13-12-12-13-12-12----|--13-12-12-13-12-12-15------------------------------|
D|----------------------|----------------------------------------------------|
A|----------------------|----------------------------------------------------|
E|----------------------|----------------------------------------------------|

Repeat that four times. Then this splits into two guitars (again, mute the 12th fret notes on the G
string):

Guitar 1:
e|-------------------------------|----------------------------------------------------|
B|-------------------13-13h14h13-|-------------------------13h14h13-------------------|
G|-13-12-12-13-12-12-------------|--13-12-12-13-12-12-15------------------------------|
D|-------------------------------|----------------------------------------------------|
A|-------------------------------|----------------------------------------------------|
E|-------------------------------|----------------------------------------------------|

Repeat this 3 and a half times, i.e. you will have played through the first bar 4 times, and the
second bar 3 times. Hope that's clear.
Guitar 2:
Splitting this into two bits: C and D. Mute the notes on the 13th fret of the B string.

C:
e|-----------------------------|---------------------------------------------|
B|-16-13-13-16-13-13--13h14h13-|---------------------------------------------|
G|-----------------------------|---------------------------------------------|
D|-----------------------------|---------------------------------------------|
A|-----------------------------|---------------------------------------------|
E|-----------------------------|---------------------------------------------|

D:
e|-------------------------15--|---------------------------------------------|
B|-16-13-13-16-13-13-16-13-----|---------------------------------------------|
G|-----------------------------|---------------------------------------------|
D|-----------------------------|---------------------------------------------|
A|-----------------------------|---------------------------------------------|
E|-----------------------------|---------------------------------------------|

Play the part C three times, then the part D, i.e. CCCD.
And then play part C another three times, i.e. CCC.
Done for this section.

Strum this chord

e|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
B|--13-----------------------------------------------------------------------|
G|--12-----------------------------------------------------------------------|
D|--13-----------------------------------------------------------------------|
A|--11-----------------------------------------------------------------------|
E|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|

Synth Lead:
I think it's a synth. I dunno. Stick up the chorus or something and make it spacey.
In regards to the slide from the 16th to the 18th, treat the 16th fret as a grace note. It'll make
sense when you play it.

e|--16-15----------15-16-18-16-15----13-----|---13------13-16----------13------------------|
B|--------13-16-13----------------16----13~-|-16--13-16-------13-16-16----16-13-16s18------|
G|------------------------------------------|----------------------------------------------|
D|------------------------------------------|----------------------------------------------|
A|------------------------------------------|----------------------------------------------|
E|------------------------------------------|----------------------------------------------|

End of this section.

Chorus:

Repeat the chorus again. Refer to chorus/intro notation.

Bridge: This was probably the hardest bit to figure out and play, and may be a little off in places.
I'm also trying my best to notate the muted notes, but I can't recall exactly what I had haha. Sorry
about that! Just listen and strum away!

Strum the following power chord 4 times.

e|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
B|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
G|-10------------------------------------------------------------------------|
D|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
A|-8-------------------------------------------------------------------------|
E|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|

Now do the following (I tap the 15th fret on the high E with my right hand):

e|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
B|----------------------13hx----------13---9---------------------------------|
G|-10-10-x-x-10-10-x-x--10-x-x--10-x--10---10--------------------------------|
D|-x--x--x-x-x--x--x-x--x--x-x--x--x--x----x---------------------------------|
A|-8--8--x-x-8--8--x-x--8--x-x--8--x--8----8---------------------------------|
E|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|

e|--------------------------------------15-----------------------------------|
B|----------------------13hx--------9h13-------------------------------------|
G|-x-x-10-10-10-10-x-x--10-x-x--10-------------------------------------------|
D|-x-x-x--x--x--x--x-x--x--x-x--x--------------------------------------------|
A|-x-x-8--8--8--8--x-x--8--x-x--8--------------------------------------------|
E|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
e|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
B|----------------------13hx----------13---9---------------------------------|
G|-10-10-x-x-10-10-x-x--10-x-x--10-x--10---10--------------------------------|
D|-x--x--x-x-x--x--x-x--x--x-x--x--x--x----x---------------------------------|
A|-8--8--x-x-8--8--x-x--8--x-x--8--x--8----8---------------------------------|
E|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|

e|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
B|----------------------13hx-------------------------------------------------|
G|-x-x-10-10-10-10-x-x--10-x-x--10--12s13------------------------------------|
D|-x-x-x--x--x--x--x-x--x--x-x--x--------------------------------------------|
A|-x-x-8--8--8--8--x-x--8--x-x--8--------------------------------------------|
E|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|

Bridge (two guitars):

Guitar 1: Just does what was done before, until the chorus; i.e:

e|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
B|----------------------13hx----------13---9---------------------------------|
G|-10-10-x-x-10-10-x-x--10-x-x--10-x--10---10--------------------------------|
D|-x--x--x-x-x--x--x-x--x--x-x--x--x--x----x---------------------------------|
A|-8--8--x-x-8--8--x-x--8--x-x--8--x--8----8---------------------------------|
E|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|

e|--------------------------------------15-----------------------------------|
B|----------------------13hx--------9h13-------------------------------------|
G|-x-x-10-10-10-10-x-x--10-x-x--10-------------------------------------------|
D|-x-x-x--x--x--x--x-x--x--x-x--x--------------------------------------------|
A|-x-x-8--8--8--8--x-x--8--x-x--8--------------------------------------------|
E|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
e|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
B|----------------------13hx----------13---9---------------------------------|
G|-10-10-x-x-10-10-x-x--10-x-x--10-x--10---10--------------------------------|
D|-x--x--x-x-x--x--x-x--x--x-x--x--x--x----x---------------------------------|
A|-8--8--x-x-8--8--x-x--8--x-x--8--x--8----8---------------------------------|
E|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|

e|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
B|----------------------13hx-------------------------------------------------|
G|-x-x-10-10-10-10-x-x--10-x-x--10--12s13------------------------------------|
D|-x-x-x--x--x--x--x-x--x--x-x--x--------------------------------------------|
A|-x-x-8--8--8--8--x-x--8--x-x--8--------------------------------------------|
E|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|

Guitar 2: A bit of staccato playing in here, so mute as you see fit.

e|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
B|----------------------11s13x--11x-9x-11------------------------------------|
G|-10-10-x-x-10-10-x-x-------------------------------------------------------|
D|-x--x--x-x-x--x--x-x---8s10x---8x-6x-8-------------------------------------|
A|-8--8--x-x-8--8--x-x-------------------------------------------------------|
E|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|

e|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
B|----------------------11s13x--11x--9---------------------------------------|
G|-x-x-10-10-10-10-x-x-------------------------------------------------------|

A|-x-x-8--8--8--8--x-x-------------------------------------------------------|
E|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|

e|------------------------------------|-15-13-15-16-15-13--13-----------------|
B|----------------------11s13x--11x-9-|------------------16---9s11--11--------|
G|-10-10-x-x-10-10-x-x----------------|---------------------------------------|

A|-x-x-8--8--8--8--x-x-------------------------------------------------------|
E|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
(watch the ending here; you get some really quick notes in there!)

e|------------------------------------|-15-13-15-16-15-13--13-------------------------------|
B|----------------------11s13x--11x-9-|------------------16--13h16h13--13---------13--------|
G|-10-10-x-x-10-10-x-x----------------|------------------------------15--13--13h15----------|
D|-x--x--x-x-x--x--x-x---8s10x---8x-6-|------------------------------------15---------------|
A|-8--8--x-x-8--8--x-x----------------|-----------------------------------------------------|
E|------------------------------------|-----------------------------------------------------|

End of bridge! (everything beyond this is either really easy in comparison, or already done :D
Almost there!)

Final chorus:

One guitar does a lead, and the other does chords.

Guitar 1 (lead):

e|-18-20-18-16-18-20-|-18-20-18-16-18-20-|-18-20-18-16-18-20-18-16-18-20-18-16-18-20-----|
B|-------------------|-------------------|-----------------------------------------------|
G|-------------------|-------------------|-----------------------------------------------|
D|-------------------|-------------------|-----------------------------------------------|
A|-------------------|-------------------|-----------------------------------------------|
E|-------------------|-------------------|-----------------------------------------------|

Repeat 6 times.

Guitar 2 (rhythm):

Repeat the following twice, just strumming the last chord for a bar:

e|-13---13-13--13-13-------|-15--15-15--15-15-------|--8---------------------|
B|-13---13-13--13-13-------|-13--13-13--13-13-------|--9---------------------|
G|-12---12-12--12-12-12s13-|-12--12-12--12-12-12s13-|--10--------------------|
D|-13---13-13--13-13-------|-13--13-13--13-13-------|--8---------------------|
A|-------------------------|------------------------|------------------------|
E|-------------------------|------------------------|------------------------|

Now just strum these chords for a bar each. Repeat this 4 times.

e|-13--|-15-|-8--------------------------------------------------------------|
B|-13--|-13-|-9--------------------------------------------------------------|
G|-12--|-12-|-10-------------------------------------------------------------|
D|-13--|-13-|-8--------------------------------------------------------------|
A|-----|----|----------------------------------------------------------------|
E|-----|----|----------------------------------------------------------------|

End of final chorus.

Outro: Pretty similar to the bridge. A few adjustments.

Guitar 1:

e|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
B|----------------------13hx----------13---9---------------------------------|
G|-10-10-x-x-10-10-x-x--10-x-x--10-x--10---10--------------------------------|
D|-x--x--x-x-x--x--x-x--x--x-x--x--x--x----x---------------------------------|
A|-8--8--x-x-8--8--x-x--8--x-x--8--x--8----8---------------------------------|
E|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|

e|--------------------------------------15-----------------------------------|
B|----------------------13hx--------9h13-------------------------------------|
G|-x-x-10-10-10-10-x-x--10-x-x--10-------------------------------------------|
D|-x-x-x--x--x--x--x-x--x--x-x--x--------------------------------------------|
A|-x-x-8--8--8--8--x-x--8--x-x--8--------------------------------------------|
E|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|

e|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
B|----------------------13hx----------13---9---------------------------------|
G|-10-10-x-x-10-10-x-x--10-x-x--10-x--10---10--------------------------------|
D|-x--x--x-x-x--x--x-x--x--x-x--x--x--x----x---------------------------------|
A|-8--8--x-x-8--8--x-x--8--x-x--8--x--8----8---------------------------------|
E|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|

e|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
B|----------------------13hx-------------------------------------------------|
G|-x-x-10-10-10-10-x-x--10-x-x--10--12s13------------------------------------|
D|-x-x-x--x--x--x--x-x--x--x-x--x--------------------------------------------|
A|-x-x-8--8--8--8--x-x--8--x-x--8--------------------------------------------|
E|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
Guitar 2- Doesn't come in until the second bar of this:

e|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
B|----------------------11s13x--11x--9---------------------------------------|
G|-x-x-10-10-10-10-x-x-------------------------------------------------------|
D|-x-x-x--x--x--x--x-x---8s10x---8x--6---------------------------------------|
A|-x-x-8--8--8--8--x-x-------------------------------------------------------|
E|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|

(watch the ending here; it's NOT the same as the bridge. Also hit the last note staccato, i.e. don't
let it ring out)

e|------------------------------------|-15-13-15-16-15-13--13---------------------------|
B|----------------------11s13x--11x-9-|------------------16--13h16h13--13-----13--------|
G|-10-10-x-x-10-10-x-x----------------|------------------------------15--13h15----------|
D|-x--x--x-x-x--x--x-x---8s10x---8x-6-|-------------------------------------------------|
A|-8--8--x-x-8--8--x-x----------------|-------------------------------------------------|
E|------------------------------------|-------------------------------------------------|

And that's it!

If you enjoy this tab, and find it helps, upload your covers, and share them to me! I'd love to see
other people cover the songs using tabs I've written.

As for any questions, just email me or YouTube message me... I'm on Facebook too, if you are
inclined to that.

My Paypal is kchay@windowslive.com, if you feel like donating.

By all means, share this around, but please credit me and the band as well. DGD made a fantastic
album, and their guitar work is sooo intense to work out.

Finally, thanks for watching, and feel free to let me know what you think; this is only the second
tab I've done. I'll try and get more done when I can :)
