30The apostles gathered around Jesus and told him all that they had done and taught. 31He said to
them, “Come away to a deserted place all by yourselves and rest a while.” For many were coming and
going, and they had no leisure even to eat. 32And they went away in the boat to a deserted place by
themselves. 33Now many saw them going and recognized them, and they hurried there on foot from all
the towns and arrived ahead of them. 34As he went ashore, he saw a great crowd; and he had
compassion for them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd; and he began to teach them
many things.

1Woe to the shepherds who destroy and scatter the sheep of my pasture! says the Lord. 2Therefore thus
says the Lord, the God of Israel, concerning the shepherds who shepherd my people: It is you who have
scattered my flock, and have driven them away, and you have not attended to them. So I will attend to
you for your evil doings, says the Lord. 3Then I myself will gather the remnant of my flock out of all the
lands where I have driven them, and I will bring them back to their fold, and they shall be fruitful and
multiply. 4I will raise up shepherds over them who will shepherd them, and they shall not fear any longer,
or be dismayed, nor shall any be missing, says the Lord.
“HANGO”
The first reading tells us that God is going to send a “shepherd” to attend the lost or scatter sheep. The
Shepherd that God mentioned is His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ who will gather His flock (people).
That is why in the Gospel, Jesus pitied the crowd who followed Him from far away place just to listen to
His teachings because of their spiritual hunger.
13But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of
Christ. 14For he is our peace; in his flesh he has made both groups into one and has broken down the
dividing wall, that is, the hostility between us. 15He has abolished the law with its commandments and
ordinances, that he might create in himself one new humanity in place of the two, thus making
peace, 16and might reconcile both groups to God in one body through the cross, thus putting to death
that hostility through it. 17So he came and proclaimed peace to you who were far off and peace to those
who were near; 18for through him both of us have access in one Spirit to the Father.
“HAWIG”
The Readings and the Gospel tells us how God will gather again His people, just like the lost sheep,
because of sin. God sent a Shepherd, Jesus Christ to attend the lost and scatter flock and bring us back
to God. Through the blood of Christ dying on the cross, He broken down the wall that divided us and
conquered death for us to have access to the Father.

As disciples of Jesus, we are also entrusted to take care of His lost sheep. What are the ways that you
can do to bring back God’s lost sheep?
SET B (18TH Sunday of Ordinary Time)
After this Jesus went to the other side of the Sea of Galilee, also called the Sea of Tiberias. 2A large
crowd kept following him, because they saw the signs that he was doing for the sick. 3Jesus went up the
mountain and sat down there with his disciples. 4Now the Passover, the festival of the Jews, was
near. 5When he looked up and saw a large crowd coming toward him, Jesus said to Philip, “Where are
we to buy bread for these people to eat?” 6He said this to test him, for he himself knew what he was
going to do. 7Philip answered him, “Six months' wages would not buy enough bread for each of them to
get a little.” 8One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, said to him, 9“There is a boy here who
has five barley loaves and two fish. But what are they among so many people?” 10Jesus said, “Make the
people sit down.” Now there was a great deal of grass in the place; so they sat down, about five thousand
in all. 11Then Jesus took the loaves, and when he had given thanks, he distributed them to those who
were seated; so also the fish, as much as they wanted. 12When they were satisfied, he told his disciples,
“Gather up the fragments left over, so that nothing may be lost.” 13So they gathered them up, and from
the fragments of the five barley loaves, left by those who had eaten, they filled twelve baskets. 14When
the people saw the sign that he had done, they began to say, “This is indeed the prophet who is to come
into the world.”
15When Jesus realized that they were about to come and take him by force to make him king, he
withdrew again to the mountain by himself.

1ST Reading: 2 KINGS 4:42-44
“HANGO”
The first reading and the Gospel both tells us the story of God’s abundance. Through the miracle of Jesus
multiplying the five loaves and two fish, a crowd of five thousand were able to eat. The same occurrence
happened to Elisha when he fed one hundred men out of twenty loaves of barley and fresh ears of grain.
All the people were satisfied and there were fragments of food that were left.
“HAWIG”
In the Gospel, a big problem was presented when a crowd of five thousand followed Jesus and His
concern of feeding them. Because of His love and compassion to people, great miracle happened. In our
lives, problems may arise and most of the time it is hard for us to come up with an answer or solution.
Just like when the disciples were faced with the problem, they don’t know how to come up with the
solution.
