YOGA COURSE

1018. SHRI MAHEISH GIRRI:

Will the Minister of AYURVEDA, YOGA AND NATUROPATHY, UNANI, SIDDHA AND
HOMOEOPATHY (AYUSH) be pleased to state:

(a) whether there are few organisations that provide long term training course in Yoga and if so, the
details thereof;

(b) whether the Government is working on providing short term course to become a Yoga instructor and
if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor;

(c) the initiatives being taken by the Government to spread Yoga in all parts of the country;

(d) the details of NGO’s working with the Ministry to spread Yoga related scheme; and

(e) the steps taken by the Government to ensure that every school has a Yoga instructor?
ANSWER
THE MINISTER OF STATE (IC) OF THE MINISTRY OF AYURVEDA,
YOGA & NATUROPATHY, UNANI, SIDDHA AND HOMOEOPATHY
(SHRI SHRIPAD YESSO NAIK)

(a): There are many institutions/organizations/ colleges which provide long term training courses in
Yoga. The details are at Annexure.

(b): Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga, (MDNIY) an autonomous body under this Ministry,
is at present conducting following Yoga Education Courses, leading to produce Yoga Instructors :-

(i). B.Sc. (Yoga Science) for 10+2 standard (3 years).

(ii). Diploma in Yoga Science for graduates. (1 year).

(c): The Ministry of AYUSH has taken several initiatives to spread Yoga in all parts of the country
and the details are as under:
(1). National AYUSH Mission (NAM) which includes programmes for Yoga
(2). Centre of Excellence
(3). Extra Mural Research Scheme (EMR)
(4). Organising National/ State Level Arogya Fairs
(5) Scheme of Yoga Training for Police Personnel
(6) Scheme for Promotion of Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) in AYUSH
(7). Scheme for organizing of Yoga Fest/Utsav in States/UTs

In addition to this, the CCRYN and MDNIY under the Ministry, are conducting the following
activities:

1. Central Council for Research in Yoga & Naturopathy (CCRYN), New Delhi:-
(1). Establishment of Post Graduate Institutes of Yoga and Naturopathy Education and Research
(PGIYNER).
(2). Establishment of Central Research Institute of Yoga & Naturopathy (CRIYN).
(3). Clinical Research- IMR and Collaborative.
(4). Establishment of OPD of Yoga & Naturopathy.
(5). Training, Propagation and Promotional Activities through participation in Health melas/
exhibition.
6. Celebration of International Day of Yoga by organizing One Month Yoga Training Programme
in all districts of India.

2. Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga (MDNIY), New Delhi :-

(1). Running Yoga OPD and Yoga Wellness Centres.
(2). Conducting Certificate, Diploma & Degree Course in Yoga
(3). Celebrating International Day of Yoga (IDY) and Organizing International Yoga Fest (5).
Conducting Seminars/ Conference/ Workshops and Special Lecture Series.

(d): There are no empaneled NGOs working with Ministry to spread Yoga related scheme. The
NGOs are engaged scheme to scheme as per the requirement by providing them Grant-in-aid.

(e): As per the National Curriculum Framework (NCF)-2005, Yoga is an integral part of Health and
Physical Education at all levels of school education. For schools affiliated to Central Board of
Education (CBSE), which has adopted National Council of Educational Research and Training
(NCERT) curriculum and syllabi, Health and Physical Education is compulsory for Classes I to X and
optional at classes IX and XII. Therefore, Yoga instructors are appointed as per requirement.
