5. The ordered pairs ( 2 , 7 ) , ( 4 , 8 ) and ( 5 , 9 ) are among nine elements of the set A x B . Determine other elements
of A x B.

6. Let A={1,2,3,4} and S= {(a,b): a  A, b  A, a divides b}. Write S explicitly.

7. Let A be the set of first ten natural numbers and let R be a relation on A defined by ( x , y ) R implies
x + 2y = 10 . Express R and R-1 as ordered pairs.

8. Let A={3,5} and B= {7,11}. Let R= {(a,b): a  A, b  B, a-b is odd. Show that R is an empty relation from A into B.

9. Let f : Z → Z defined by f = { ( n , n2) , n  Z } and g = { n : n2, n  Z } . show that f = g.

10. If f(x) = x + 1/x +, prove that: [f(x)]3 = f(x3 )+ 3f (I/x)

11. What is the domain of the function; x/x2-3x+2 ?

12. Find the domain and range of the following functions:


A) f(x) = √x-1 B) f(x) = √3-2x

13. Let f(x) = x2 and g(x)= 2x+1 be two real functions. Find (f+g)(x), (f-g)(x), (fg)(x) and f/g(x).
