Course Focus: The course focuses on the entrepreneur as a team leader and coach;
managerial skills and roles; emerging trends in the workplace; changing demographics and
the impact of technology; emphasis on team work; behavioural consideration on job design
and physical consideration on job design.

Course Rationale: The underline rationale of the course is to provide an understanding of major
theoretical and practical issues relating to human resource management and organizational
behavior.

Course Objectives: This course seeks to:


 demonstrate their understanding of the key concepts, theories and procedures used by
organizations in managing people;
 explain management practices associated with contemporary organizations;
 analyze key aspects of organizational behaviour and current HR practice;
 assess the impact of key components of current HR practice upon the organization;
 evaluate HR policies and practices for greater accountability and responsibility from both an
employer and an employee perspective;
 identify and evaluate options and solutions to organizational and people management
problems;
 synthesize and use information and knowledge about organizational behaviour and people
management effectively;
 do critical evaluation skills of organizational behaviour and current HR practice.
 able to utilize key practices relating to HRM;
 analyze and write skills in a time constrained setting;
 able to plan work and study independently and;
 able to apply reason and justification within discussion.

Mode of Teaching: Hybrid

Class Policy: Attendance is compulsory for all students. All computers and phones must be
switched off during lecture.

Assessment Procedure: Assessment Procedure: Grading is based on individual performance


through mid-semester test(s) which forms the continuous assessment (40%), and examination
at the end of the course. The final examination shall be 60%. Plagiarism is an offense and any
form of malpractice will be penalized. Continuous assessment test and the final examination
shall be computer-based test.

Week 1: Introduction to human resource management; Organizational culture and structures;
Week 2: Personality, Emotions & Motivation; The changing nature of work;
Week 3: Recruitment and Selection; Engagement, Commitment and Retention;
Week 4: Employee Performance; Attendance and absence;
Week 5: Employee wellbeing; Redundancy and dismissal.
Week 6: Introduction to organizational behaviour: What do you mean by values?
Week 7: Mid-semester test
Week 8: Concept of Attitude; Cognitive Dissonance Theory;
Week 9: Workplace Attitude; Concept of Job Satisfaction;
Week 10: Concept of Learning; Classical Conditioning Theory;
Week 11: Operant Conditioning; Social Learning and Behavior Modification
Week 12: Revision
