PROBLEM SOLVING
• The term problem solving means slightly different things
depending on the discipline. For instance, it is a mental process
in psychology and a computerized process in computer
science.
• Problem solving consists of using generic or ad hoc methods
in an orderly manner to find solutions to problems. Some of
the problem-solving techniques developed and used
in philosophy, artificial intelligence, computer
science, engineering, mathematics, or medicine are related to
mental problem-solving techniques studied in psychology.
• Problem solving skills refers to our ability to solve problems in
an effective and timely manner without any impediments.
• It involves being able to identify and define the problem,
generating alternative solutions, evaluating and selecting the
best alternative, and implementing the selected solution.
Obtaining a feedback and responding to it appropriately is an
essential aspect of problem solving skills too.
