4. First-aid measures

Eye contact - rinse immediately with tap water for 10 minutes - open eyelids
forcibly
- consult a physician if irritation persists

Skin contact - remove immediately contaminated clothes, wash affected skin

with water and soap - do not use any solvents

Inhalation - remove the casualty to fresh air

Note to physician - treat symptomatically

5. Fire-fighting measures

Suitable extinguishing media - foam, dry powder, carbon dioxide, water mist

Unsuitable extinguishing media - use water spray and water jet for cooling purposes only (fat
explosion hazard) *1

Protection of fire-fighters - precipitate gases/vapours/mists with water spray

*1 referring to: d-Tocopherols

6. Accidental release measures

Environmental protection - do not allow to enter drains or waterways *2

- nontoxic and biodegradable, but very slow biodegradation due to
low water solubility *2

Methods for cleaning up - collect spills with inert adsorbent and hand over to waste removal
- clean contaminated areas with little ethanol

*2 referring to: dl-α-Tocopherol

7. Handling and storage

Handling

Technical measures - processing in closed systems, if possible superposed by inert gas

(e.g. nitrogen)
- local exhaust ventilation necessary
- take precautionary measures against electrostatic charging

Suitable materials - stainless steel, aluminium, enamel, glass, polyethylene

Storage

Storage conditions - protected from light

- cool
- store under inert gas

Date: 14.5.02 (SEISMO) Replacing edition of: -- Page: 2/6

Mixed Tocopherols 95

Validity - 36 months, < 15 °C, in the unopened original container, see "best
use before" date stated on the label, after opening the container,
the contents should be used within a short period, under nitrogen

Packaging materials - tightly closing; material: stainless steel, aluminium, enamel, glass,
food-approved plastics

8. Exposure controls/Personal protection

Engineering Measures - see 7.

Monitoring

Analytics - sampling on filter or impinger and chemical determination

(consider possible autooxidation)

Stability - stable under the conditions mentioned in chapter 7

Conditions to avoid - air

- light
- warming

Materials to avoid - iron, silver and metal salts, oxidizing agents, peroxides,
atmospheric oxygen

Note - in the absence of oxygen tocopherols are resistant to alkali and to

heat up to 200°C and can be vacuum-distilled without decomposition *1
- on storage, some darkening may occur which, however, will not
notably affect the quality

*1 referring to: d-Tocopherols
