MUSIC

JAPAN – Land of the Rising Sun

 The musical interval in Japan is based on human breathing, not on mathematical timing.
 the traditional music of Japan is meditative in character.
 Japanese music has two modes, the yo-sen (male scale) and in-sen (female scale) mode.
 SAKURA ( Cherry Blossom) – traditional folk song
 MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS
PERCUSSION
1. ODAIKO- big drum
2. Tsuzumi is an hourglass-shape instrument.
3. Tsuridaiko is a large hanging barrel drum.
4. Taiko is a drum that has various sizes
STRING
1. Koto is a 13-stringed zither.
2. Shamisen is a stringed instrument and performs through plucking.
3. Biwa is a short necked fretted lute.
WIND
1. Shakuhachi is the most famous flute made from bamboo.
2. Nokan is a bamboo flute (fue) is the only melodic instrument perform in Noh.
3. Hichiriki is one of the two main melodic instruments in Japanese Gagaku music. It is a double reed
Japanese flute.
4. Sho was introduced from China during the Nara period and it has freed.
5. Shinobue has a high pitched sound and it is also known as takebue.
6. Ryuteki is a Japanese transverse flute made of bamboo and it literally means dragon flute.

CHINA – Land of the Dragon

 Confucius conceived their music as a way of calming passion and dispelling unrest, rather than as a
form of amusement. They believed that sounds influence the harmony of the universe.
 Pentatonic scale or 5-tone scale is commonly used in Chinese music.
 MO LI HUA ( Jasmine Flower) – traditional folk song
 MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS
1. Yueqin is a moon-shaped lute.
2. Pipa is a four-stringed lute with 30 frets and a pear-shaped body.
3. Erhu is a fiddle with two strings.
4. Yunluo is a set of ten small tuned gongs mounted in a wood frame. It literally means cloud gongs or
cloud of gongs.
5. Sheng is known as a Chinese mouth organ. It consist of 12 to 36 bamboo pipes.
6. Dizi is the traditional Chinese flute.
7. Zheng is an elongated-trapezoid with 13 to 21 strings stretched over individual bridges.
8. Pengling. The two small bells are made of high-tin bronze.

KOREA – Land of the morning calm

 The traditional music of Korea is generous in the use of bright rhythms and melody.
 Two Major Divisions of Traditional Korean Music
Chong-ak -It means “right music”. It also pertains to ensemble music for men of high social status
outside of the court.
Sog-ak or minsogak -It is the music for lower classes or for the general public.
 Skilled singers and drummer perform Pansori Music.
 ARIRANG ( The Hill) – traditional folk song

ARTS
 Asia’s arts and crafts in Asia shows how beauty their culture is.
 Calligraphy- is the art of beautiful and decorative handwriting
 Origami – the art of paper folding
 Painting- the most famous art form in East Asia.
 “manhwa” or “manga- comics in Japan
 Woodblock printing- It is a technique for printing text, images or patterns used widely
throughout East Asia.
 tal- Korean masks

 The Hanbok (literally means “Korean clothing”) is a traditional outfit of the Korean people. This
is characterized by vibrant colors and simple lines without pockets.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION
 Curl-up Test is to measure muscular endurance of the abdominal muscles.
 Exercise- promotes physical well-being. Exercise involves physical activity and increasing the
heart rate beyond resting levels. It is important for preserving physical and mental health.
 Physical activity- refers to all movement, regular exercise, regardless of intensity and type.
 Volleyball is a sport that has been enjoyed by people of all ages and skill levels for over a
century. Created in 1895 by William G. Morgan.
 Volley: Hitting the ball before it bounces, which is the standard in volleyball.
 Pass: The act of receiving the ball and getting it to the setter. Also known as a bump.
 Serve: The action that begins at each point, where a player hits the ball over the net into the
opponent's court.
 Set: The tactical pass that sets up a teammate for an attack.
 Spike: A powerful, downward hit of the ball over the net into the opponent's court.
 Dig: A dig is a defensive move where a player passes a hard-hit attack from the opposing team,
usually by diving or rolling.
 Fault: A violation of the rules resulting in a point for the opposing team.
 Basketball - began with its invention in 1891 in Springfield, Massachusetts, by Canadian
physical education instructor James Naismith as a less injury-prone sport than football.
 Dribbling is a basic rule in basketball.
 Passing- enables players to move the ball around the court when they’re not dribbling so their
team doesn't lose control of it to the opposing team.
 Shooting - the only skill that actually involves scoring points.
 Rebounding- used on both the offense and defense ends. It helps regulate shot attempts and
assists offensive and defensive players in achieving their goals.
HEALTH
 Family- the basic unit in society traditionally consisting of two parents rearing their children
 Dating- is a stage where two individuals regularly engage in activity together to evaluating each
other's suitability as a partner in a future intimate relationship.
 Courtship- a period during which a couple develop a romantic relationship, especially with a
view to marriage.
 Engagement- a formal agreement to get married
 Marriage- he legally or formally recognized union of two people as partners in a personal
relationship
 Good decision- made after a thoughtful consideration of consequences
 Teenage Pregnancy- also known as adolescent pregnancy, is pregnancy in a female under
the age of 20.
 Pregnancy- the period in which a fetus develops inside a woman's womb or uterus.
 Fertilization- the process by which a sperm cell from a male merge with an egg cell from a
female, resulting in the formation of a zygote.
 Birth- process of bringing forth a child from the uterus, or womb.
 Labor- series of continuous, progressive contractions of the uterus that help the cervix dilate
(open) and efface (thin). This allows the fetus to move through the birth canal.
 Parenthood- the state of being a parent
 Embryo- early stage in the development of humans
 Contractions- are the rhythmic tightening and relaxing of the muscles in your uterus.
