Section – A (Reading)
1. Read the passage and answer the questions that follow.
The dog is the most faithful of man’s friends. He stands by his master in prosperity,
in poverty, in health and in sickness. There are many kinds or breeds of dogs.
They grey hound and the fox hound are used for hunting. They have a keen sense of
smell and are very swift. Blood Hounds are used by the people to track criminals.
The house dog guards houses. The sheep dog looks after a flock of sheep, like a
shepherd. Dogs were used for carrying messages during time of war The Red Cross
dogs were used as messengers. The St. Bernard dogs are said to have saved the lives
of many travellers who lost their way in the snow of the Alps. Dogs are men`s
friends because of their intelligence and faithfulness. They deserve all our love and
kindness.
Answer the following Questions. [05]
a. Why is the dog considered the most faithful of man`s friends?
b. Which breeds of dogs are used for hunting?
c. Which dog helps to track criminals?
d. Who did the St. Bernard dogs save?
e. Write down two qualities that describe a dog?
2. Garden Snake
I saw a snake and I ran away …
Some snakes are dangerous , they say :
But mother says that kind is good , And eats up Insects for his food
So when he wiggles in the grass
I`ll stand aside and watch him pass,
And tell myself , ``There`s no mistake,
It’s just a harmless garden snake !
Answer thew following Questions :- [05]
