HISTORY

The Philippine National Police Highway Patrol Group (PNP- HPG) was

originally established as Traffic Control Group (Trafcon) and designed to be a

"specialized and dedicated" police unit to maintain road traffic safety across the

Philippines, following a fatal road accident that claimed the lives of two

statesmen close to then President Ramon Magsaysay. It was originally designed

as a unit under the Philippine Constabulary, which was then part of the Armed

Forces of the Philippines. Later, the Trafcon became known as the Constabulary

Highway Patrol Group before it was absorbed by the Philippine National Police in

1991. The HPG later became the Traffic Management Group. For a few years

until 2015, the traffic law enforcement powers of the HPG were given to the
11

Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and local government units

(LGUs). In 2015, the HPG were called back to help work against the worsening

traffic in EDSA and the other major thoroughfares in Metro Manila. Now, it is

known as the Philippine National Police Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG).

MISSION

To enforce pertinent laws, prevent and control crimes, maintain peace and

order, and ensure public safety along with the highways with active support of the

community.

VISION

A safe highway conducive to economic growth through efficient and effective

services of professional, dynamic, and highly motivated Highway Patrol Group.

6975, the Maritime Police Command (MARICOM) was created on January 16,

1991, by virtue of NHQ PNP GO. No. 58 as one of the National Support Units of

the PNP.

The original members of the Maritime Command are personnel of the

Philippine Constabulary, Philippine Navy, Integrated National Police and

Philippine and Philippine Coast Guard. On the September 12, 1996, the National

Police Commission issued the Resolution No. 96-058 changing the name of the

Maritime Police Command (MARICOM) to Maritime Group (MG).

MISSION

To perform all police functions over Philippine territorial waters and rivers

including ports of entry and exit; ensure public safety and internal security; and

sustain the protection of the maritime environment.

SUMMARY, CONCLUSION, AND RECOMMENDATIONS

Summary:
24

The main objective of the On- the- Job Training (OJT) was to gain

knowledge, develop skills, discipline and values. This is important for the

Criminology Interns because this will serve as a practice for the real life situation

of the chosen profession. This is a way to expose the trainees and help them to

be productive.

The Criminology Department looked a way to conduct a On-the-Job

training . It was done by deploying the Criminology Intern to the different

campuses of the Aklan State University and government agency. It was grouped

into twelve.

Even though is was very expensive in terms of fare, we were determined

to finish this On-The-Job training. We instill in our mind that is one of a kind

experience and opportunity for us interns. This is a way to develop our skills and

be prepared for the future.

Conclusions:

After two hundred seventy hours of On- the- Job Training, I can conclude

that being prepared is very important. Developing skills, knowledge, values and

conduct shows professionalism. Being a criminology students must have

determination and dedication because it may help them in the chosen profession

and it is soon to be model of the society in the near future.

Recommendations:
25

I recommend that Criminology Interns must be good in time management,

flexible, ready to discover things and explore new experiences that can help for

self- development. Furthermore, they should be approachable and develop good

relationships with the management and co-interns for better working conditions.

I finally recommend that the Criminology intern must focus on the

government agency rather than in the campuses and the training periods should

be longer to expose the students for more job experiences.
