1 2 3 9
(1) { , , , … . . }
2 3 4 10
1 1 1 1
(2) {1, 4 , 9 , 16 , 25 , … . . }

Q2. Use roster form to represent the following:

(1) {𝑥: 𝑥 ∈ 𝑁 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑥 𝑖𝑠 𝑎 𝑝𝑟𝑖𝑚𝑒 𝑓𝑎𝑐𝑡𝑜𝑟 𝑜𝑓 84}

(2) {𝑥: 𝑥 ∈ 𝑁 𝑎𝑛𝑑 4𝑥 − 3 ≤ 15 }
(3) {𝑥: 𝑥 𝑖𝑠 𝑎 𝑣𝑜𝑤𝑒𝑙 𝑖𝑛 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑤𝑜𝑟𝑑 𝑃𝑅𝐼𝑁𝐶𝐼𝑃𝐴𝐿}

Q3. Write the following sets as intervals:

(1) {𝑥: 𝑥 ∈ 𝑅 , 2 ≤ 𝑥 ≤ 7}
(2) {𝑥: 𝑥 ∈ 𝑅 , 𝑥 ≥ −2}
(3) {𝑥: 𝑥 ∈ 𝑅 , 𝑥 < −3}

Q4. Write the following intervals in set builder form:

(i) ( -2, 0] (ii) (-∞, 4) (iii) (3, ∞)

Q5. Using properties of sets prove that:

A – B = A ∩ B’

Q6. If A, B, and C are any three sets, then prove that

(i) A ∪ (B ∩ C) = (A U B) ∩ (A U C) (ii) (A ∩ B) ∪ C = (A∩ B) ∪ ( A ∩ C)

Q7. Let A = {x: x is a prime number less than 10} and B = { 𝑥: 𝑥 ∈ 𝑁 𝑎𝑛𝑑 0 < 𝑥 − 2 ≤ 6 } 𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑛 𝑓𝑖𝑛𝑑

(I) A ∪ 𝐵 (II) A ∩ 𝐵 (III) A – B (IV) B - A

Q8. Let U be the set of all digits in our decimal system, A = {x: x is an odd integer}, B = {x: x is an even
integer} and C= { x: x ≤ 5 } , then form the following sets:

(i) (A ∪ 𝐵)′ (ii) A – C (iii) A ∩ ( 𝐵 ∪ 𝐶) (iv) A - (B∪ 𝐶) (v) A ∩ 𝐶′ .

Q9. If U = [ x: x ∈ 𝑁 , 𝑥 ≤ 30 } , A = [ x: x is prime < 5}, B = {x: x is a perfect square ≤ 10} and C = {x: x is a
perfect cube ≤ 30} , then verify the following results :

(i) (A ∪ 𝐵)′ = 𝐴′ ∩ 𝐵′ (ii) (A∩ 𝐵)′ = 𝐴′ ∪ 𝐵′

Q10. On the real axis, A = [ -1, 1) and B= [ 2, 6], then write the following:
(i) A ‘ (ii) B’ (iii) A ∪ 𝐵 (iv) A ∩ 𝐵 (v) A – B (vi) B - A

Q11. From the sets given below, select equal sets and equivalent sets.

A = {0, a}, B = {1, 2, 3, 4}, C = {4, 8, 12}, D = {3,1,2,4}, E = {1,0}, F = {8, 4, 12}, G = {1,5,7,11}, H = {a, b}

Q.12. Write down all possible subsets of the following:

(i) {a} (ii) {∅} (iii) {a, b, c} (iv) ∅

Q.13. If X = {8n – 7n – 1, n∈ N} and Y = {49(n-1), n ∈ N}. Prove that X is a subset of Y.

Q.14. In a survey of 100 persons, it was found that 28 read magazine A, 30 read magazine B, 42 read
magazine C, 8 read magazines A and B, 10 read magazines A and C, 5 read magazines B and C and 3 read
all the three magazines. Find:

(i) How many read none of the three magazines?

(ii) How many read magazine C only?

Q.15. In a group of 70 people, 45 speak Hindi language and 33 speak English language and 10 speak
neither Hindi nor English. How many can speak both English as well as Hindi language? How many can
speak only English language?
