Instructions
300, 400, & 450 E-Boom Controllers
Hardware/Software Requirements
PC or laptop computer – (minimum requirements) Windows-98SE, Pentium-II.
You should have Administrative permissions to use this software.
4170001 – E-Boom Controller Software (for E300, E400, E450, controller P/N 1600292)
2901443 - JLG Handheld Analyzer
1060629 - JLG Interface Cable
Tools Required
JLG Handheld Analyzer (p/n: 2901443) is used to validate the software version before downloading.
SOFTWARE SETUP
HARDWARE SETUP
1. Power System: Turn the key to ground mode (Purple Icon) and pull the e-stop out.
2. Machine Software Version Check: Plug the JLG Analyzer (2901443) into the white four-pin
connector (see Figure 8) on the lower right part of the controller. Using the JLG Analyzer to
check version level of the board:
Go to MENU, scroll to Diagnostics (hit ENTER)
Scroll to VERSIONS (hit: ENTER)
3. Current JLG Software Version Check: See the 4170001 document in JED to find the latest
software revision code number and match that number with the two ‘X’s of the file name. It
should be something like 4170001_V2-3.exe.
4. Compare Versions: If the machine does not contain the latest software version, follow the
Software Loading Process below.

SOFTWARE LOADING PROCESS:
1. Record Machine Settings. You may lose these when you update the software, so make sure
you have a hardcopy. Go to MENU, scroll to MACHINE SETUP (hit ENTER) and scroll through
the menu, recording the values.
2. Connect PC: Remove the JLG Analyzer from its 4-pin connector and connect your laptop or PC
to the 4-pin connector using the Interface Cable (1060629). See Appendix 3 for pictures.
3. Power System: Turn the key to ground mode and pull the e-stop out.
4. Run PGFLASHW_JLG.exe.
It can be found in a Start Menu Folder: Start Æ Programs Æ PGFLASHW
The Status Text at the bottom of the window should indicate a connection as show in Figure 1. In
the example below, the connection is on COM1. You may connect using a different COM Port
(e.g. COM2, COM3, or COM4). See Appendix 1 for details.
Note: Only COM Ports 1 through 4 are supported. Make sure you are using one of these COM
Ports.

5. Start Upload: Click the Program! button.
The unit will take 1-2 minutes to complete programming. Progress will be shown at the bottom of
the window. After programming is complete, a window similar to the following will appear:

7. Return to Original Machine Settings: After verification, enter access level one. Under machine
setup, toggle the model (change it to something it is not and return it to the correct value), and re-
enter the machine setup values that were recorded earlier. Remove the analyzer from the
connector and reconnect the CAN Bus connector to the red four-pin receptacle. You are finished.

Error Messages
Make sure you connect your PC to the Ground Module using the JLG Interface Cable. Also,
make sure the Ground Module is set to Ground Mode. Do not plug the cable into the connector
located on the platform.
If you are using your PC’s serial port, the cable should like Figure 10. If you are using a USB
port, see Figure 11 for the correct cables.
Figure 7 shows the Ground Module set to the Ground Mode (purple square). Figure 8 shows
where to connect the 4-Pin CAN connector. It is the last 4-pin plug on the module.
PGFLASHW will tell you if the cable is not connected to a CAN port on the machine. Assuming
you are using COM Port 1, the Status Text at the bottom of the window will read “STATUS:
SILENCE ON COM1” if there is nothing connected to your serial port (or USB port if it is
configured as COM1). If there is a cable in COM1 but it is not terminated in the 4-pin CAN
connector on the machine, the text will read “STATUS: TRYING COM1”. If the connection is
made correctly, the text will read “STATUS: CONNECTED ON COM1” as show in Figure 1.
