DEFINE THE PARTS OF AN ELEVATOR AND THEIR USES.
SPACE PROVIDED.

MACHINE ROOM - holds the elevator's drives and


controllers and is where you will find the main control
systems for the elevators as well.
DRIVING MACHINE – It is a power unit that applies the
energy necessary to drive an elevator.
MOTOR GENERATOR - It is to convert a building’s
alternating current (AC) electricity supply into direct
current (DC) for powering the DC hoisting machine
and controller of the elevator.
SUSPENSION ROPES – it is to suspend the elevator cab
and make the car go up and down.
CAR ROLLER GUIDES – it is to travel along the
hoistway rails to keep your elevator car properly
aligned as it moves up and down in the hoistway.
TRAVELLING CABLE – it is used for power transmission
to the elevator car, and communication between the
controller, and the elevator car.
CAR GUIDE RAIL – it allows for the safe and precise
movement of the car and counterweights.
HOISTWAY - also commonly referred to as the shaft,
shaftway or hatchway is the space in which the
elevator travels.
CONTROLLER – the controller monitors the systems,
receives signals from the elevator and sends out
signals that manage the different components.
GOVERNOR - is a speed monitoring device on traction
elevators that triggers a safety mounted on the car
frame when the elevator reaches high speeds in either
direction.
CAR – elevator car moves in a vertical shaft to carry
passengers between the levels of a multistory
building.
COUNTERWEIGHT GUIDE RAIL- is what allows for the
safe and precise movement of the car and
counterweight.
COUNTER WEIGHT ROLLER GUIDE - Its purpose is to
make lifting the load more efficient, saving energy and
applying less response on the lifting machine.
COUNTERWEIGHT – it plays a crucial role in ensuring
the efficiency of elevator systems.
BUFFERS - to provide protection against the
malfunction of an elevator control system resulting in
the elevator continuing to travel past the lowest stop
to the base of the elevator shaft.
