1. Define Physical Education.
(A). Physical Education is an integral and important part of educational
progress which is learnt through playful activities. It tends to bring
desirable changes in the behaviour and attitude of individuals towards
progress. Physical education is not limited to games, sports or exercises.
It aims at complete development of the personality through physical
activities.
2. What is the aim of Physical Education?
(A). The aim of physical education is optimum wholesome qualities
developed in persons through the medium of physical education . It
emphasises the balanced development of physical , mental , social ,
intellectual and emotional behaviour.
3. Mention the objectives of Physical Education.
(A). The objectives of physical Education are as follows.
i. Physical Development- Development of organ systems such as
circulatory system, digestive system, nervous system and muscular
system.
ii. Psychological/Mental Development- Various physical activities require
alertness of mind, deep concentration and calculated movements.
iii. Social Development – Development of social traits essential for better
adjustment in life.
iv. Emotional Development- Develop/control various emotions like fear,
pleasure, hope, anger, jealousy etc.
II. Short answer type questions ( 50 to 60 words)
a. Explain the following.
i. Physical Development;
• To provide knowledge of fundamental movement skills in the early
years and more specific skills in the later years.
• To provide opportunities to enjoy a variety of physical activities and
motivate participation in sports and recreation as lifelong pursuits.
• To recognise, analyse and evaluate the effects of variety of
physical activities on individuals ,and to set goals for the future.
• To develop neuromuscular co ordination through participation in a
variety of physical activities.
• To develop knowledge about the prevention of communicable
diseases.
• To develop good health of an individual.
ii. Psychological Development:
• To develop alertness of mind, deep concentration and calculated
movements through various physical activities.
• To develop one’s personality by good behaviour.
• To develop positive thoughts and ideas which guide an individual
towards progress and become a good citizen.
• To help children strive for excellence in games and sports.
• To develop acceptance of personal responsibility of one’s actions.
• To develop the ability to plan, evaluate and implement decisions.
iii. Social Development.
• To develop awareness of the important role of motivation,
enthusiasm, initiative, self discipline , self respect, co-operation and
the assumption of responsibility in the maintenance of a healthy
society.
• To enable students to play safely and acquire an awareness of
safety with respect to themselves and others.
• To develop the ability to respect the attitudes and values of others
and contribute effectively to home, school, work and community life.
• To develop effective interpersonal skills such as assertive
communication, negotiation , conflict resolution, co-operation and
leadership to act responsibly and contribute effectively to groups
and teams.
• To provide skills for dealing with psycho-social issues in school,
home and the community.
iv. Emotional Development
• To develop the ability to control various emotions like fear,
pleasure, hope, anger, jealousy etc.
• To develop the ability to deal with success and failure equally.
• To develop the skills to use one’s body to express one’s ideas,
attitudes and emotions.
• To develop an understanding of different emotional situations in
game and the ability to face those situations.
2. What is the main role of Physical Education in the life of a child?

Is physical education necessary for a healthy body and mind?
(A) Physical Education helps the child in the development of body
and mind. Moreover it helps to develop total personality related to
physical, mental, social and emotional development of a child. It
helps the child to develop good health and the leads the child
towards progress and wellness. It leads to balance development of
the child.
3. What is the current trend of physical education?
(A) The current trend of physical education has
• Focussed less on fun and team sports and more on getting
children healthy.
• Developed instructions to outline and define the goals specific
to increasing life long health.
• Identified three areas for focus- current fitness levels,
educating health matters and teaching how to plan for long
core exercises.
• Shifted from fun release of energy to an increased scope of
physical health.
4. Explain the various changing trends in physical education/
(A) There have been diverse changes in the trends of physical
education as it has incorporated broad genres like the introduction
of technology and correlation with other subjects to become more
meaningful.
• Physical education increasingly incorporates more holistic
approaches, including lessons on healthy eating habits,
stress reduction methodology, and healthy lifestyle choices.
• It has also incorporated data analytics, which instructors
readily use to plan their teaching lessons according to the
needs of the students.
• Educators can create personalized fitness programs using
data and fitness tracking.
• It also enables tracking abilities to help plan customized
personal workout sessions and monitor progress.
• Now, physical education is restructured into multidisciplinary
subjects by experts to understand the player's pattern and
link it with history to understand the evolutionary process of
the game.

5. Name and explain the qualification in physical education in India.


• For adopting physical education as a profession, one needs the
qualification. The courses such as B.P.E. (Bachelor of Physical
Education) or B.P.Ed. (Post Graduate Diploma in Physical Education),
M.P.E. (Master of Physical Education or Post Graduation in Physical
Education); M.S.S. (Master of Sports Science); NIS Diploma (National
Institute of Sports Diploma in a specific game).
• Diploma in Physical Education (D.P.Ed.): This course prepares
physical education teachers for the elementary stage of school education
i.e. for Classes I to VIII.
• Bachelor of Physical Education (B.P.Ed): This course is designed for
preparing teachers of physical education for teaching theory papers in
Classes VI to X and conducting physical education and sports activities
for Classes XI-XII.
• Master of Physical Education (M.P.Ed.): It is meant for preparing
physical education teachers for Senior Secondary Classes (i.e. XI-XII) as
well as Assistant Professors/ Directors/ Sports Officers in Departments
of physical education. in Colleges/Universities and Teacher Educators in
Colleges of physical education and University
• In addition, research-oriented courses such as Master of Philosophy
(M.Phil.), Doctorate of Philosophy (Ph.D.) and Postdoctoral/Doctoral
Fellowship (P.D.E.) Programs are also offered in physical education.
• Apart from this, different educational institutions in India offer various
courses in Physical Education

6. What are the career options in physical education?


(A) The career options in physical education are
• Teaching Career: At elementary, middle, high school, and senior
secondary levels.
• Coaching Career: In sports administration and physical education
departments.
• Health-related Career: Working in healthy clubs or as athletic trainers.
• Performance-related Career: Becoming professional players or
officials.
• Career in Communication and Media: Sports journalism, book
publication, and sports photography.
• Other options include working as a massagist, dietitian, sports
psychologist, special educator, rehabilitation expert, or yoga expert
