DATE:16-03-23 BEAM

PROBLEM:
Find the maximum deflection stress for the cantilever beam,
Assume rectangular cross section area 0.4x0.6 m, young’s modulus 210
GPA, Poisson’s ratio 0.27. Load acting on the beam is 5KN

SOLUTION:
To solve the maximum deflection stress by using of ANSYS
WORKBENCH.

PROCEDURE:
STEP 1: START AN ANSYS WORKBENCH PROJECT

Open an Ansys workbench and select the static structural.

STEP 2: ENGINEERING DATA:

In the drop down menu select the engineering data to change the
value of young’s modulus = 210 Gpa, Poisson’s ratio = 0.27.

STEP 3: GEOMETRY:

 Open geometry and right click and then select the new design
modular geometry.
 To draw the line diagram.
 Select the XY plane and go to sketching, select rectangle tool in draw
option.
 Draw rectangle and change the dimensions of rectangle from the
modify option in the sketching toolbox.
 In general, select dimension of horizontal(H1) and vertical
directions(V2) of the rectangle.
 Enter the dimension of the cantilever in the detail view tool bar
H1=0.4m and V2 = 0.6m.
 After completing the line diagram click generate.
 To define the length of the cantilever click on the extrude option and
apply the geometry to the element.
 Define depth of the beam 7m and click generate and close the window.

STEP 4: SELECT MODEL

Open model and Right click on to MESH and select GENETARE


MESH, select the element size in the details tool box if required.

STEP 5: SELECT STATIC STRUCTURAL:
 Right click on the static structural and click onto insert in that
supports, load, displacement can be selected.
 Then, select the fixed support and apply to the phase.
 Select the force & select the geometry where the load (5KN) to be
applied.(Edge).
 Then, select the fixed support and apply to the phase.

STEP 6: SELECT SOLUTION:


Right click on the solution & select deformation >Total deformation &
Directional deformation

PROBLEM 2:

A Cantilever beam of length 5m with cross sectional dimension of


200mm x200mm is subjected to point load of 5 KN at the free end .
Determine the maximum deflection of beam, maximum shear force and
maximum bending moment of the beam during Ansys workbench
E=2X10^5 Mpa.

SOLUTION:

To solve the maximum deflection stress by using of ANSYS


WORKBENCH.

PROCEDURE:

STEP 1: START AN ANSYS WORKBENCH PROJECT

Open an Ansys workbench and select the static structural.

STEP 2: ENGINEERING DATA

 Give the dimension of H2= 375mm,V1= 79.78mm,V3=35.68mm.
 Select resolve option and select apply option and select axis of
rotation.
 Apply generate.

Open model and Right click on to MESH and select


GENETARE MESH, select the element and generate mesh.

STEP 5: SELECT STATIC STRUCTURAL:

Right click on the static structural click on to insert support, load and
displacement.

STEP 1:START AN ANSYS WORKBENCH PROJECT

Open an Ansys workbench and select the static structural.

In the drop down menu select the engineering data of specific
properties materials need to input in ANSYS . start by right clicking on
engineering data and add material.

STEP 3: GEOMETRY
 Sketch a circle representing the un- deformed neutral axis of the
bar.
 Turn this LINE SKETCH in to a LINE BODY . only BODIES can be
meshed in ANSYS.

 Define the bar cross section and assign to in it LINE BODY proper
orientation.
 Click on XY plane
 First instinct to make a circle solid as a model for our stepped bar.
This would create 3 D element which would be one way of modelling
the bar.
 Here, we will use a different modelling approach using ID bar
element.
 Modelling the neutral axis of the bar and calculating deformation
directly.
 Bending stress and bending moment derived from the deformation of
the neutral axis.
 GIVE COORDINATE OPTION and give the direction 6m in z axis ,
click yes to the option preserve bodies in the body option select the
sketch 1 and apply - generate.
 Now with the same diameter create another circle over the existing
circle for an depth of 50mm.
 Repeat the process of creating circle of dia about 40mm with an depth
of about 150mm, so that a bar of size smaller is created.

STEP 3: SELECT MODEL

Open model and Right click on to MESH and select GENETARE


MESH, select and generate mesh.

truss ,constructed of wooden timbers, which can be used in parallel to
form bridges. Determine the deflections at each joint of the truss under
the given loading conditions.

Rigth click on the static structural click on to insert support, load and
displacement.

apply.
Go to static structural -> insert-> force-> select the point and apply.
