ABSTRACT

As I am very fond of automobile engineering. It was a great opportunity for me to do a Six-

week internship in HYUNDAI. The internship was concentrated on the four wheeler vehicles
services. At the beginning of internship, I had several queries in my mind regarding the
different technologies used in Hyundai motors and what skills are needed in organization.
During my internship several queries are cleared by doing some activities. The objective of
this internship is to gather information about the quick services and the major minor
problems that can be observed in day-to-day life. In the workshop, I have learnt the rules and
safety instructions which helps me in understanding while working on vehicles. So, this
internship was a great experience. I found out how strong I am in the automobile field. I
gained new knowledge and skills and met many new people. I achieved many of my learning
goals. I got insight into the work of an organization. The financing is an important factor
and forces us to be flexible in attitude and approach. I learned more about the problems
which I have faced while working on the vehicles. Working together with people of different
backgrounds and by education these threats must be approached to succeed in my internship.
The sharing of knowledge, ideas and opinions is of importance. There is still a lot to discover,
and other methods can be improved. At last, this internship has given me new insights and
motivation to pursue a vehicle in Mechanical Engineering.

1.1 Hydraulic Car Lift

A hydraulic car lift is a type of mechanical device used in automotive workshops and service
centers to raise vehicles off the ground, allowing technicians to perform inspections,
maintenance, and repairs with ease. These lifts rely on hydraulic pressure generated by fluid
to create force, making them highly efficient for lifting heavy loads such as cars, SUVs, and
trucks. Hydraulic lifts come in various designs, such as two-post lifts, four-post lifts, scissor
lifts, and in-ground lifts, each suited for specific workshop applications.

Fig 3.6 Hydraulic car lifter

Fig 3.7 Hydraulic car lifter
How Hydraulic Car Lifts Work

The core mechanism of a hydraulic lift involves the use of hydraulic fluid inside a cylinder.
When pressure is applied, the fluid forces a piston to move, lifting the vehicle. The lift lowers
when the pressure is released, allowing the fluid to return to the reservoir. This system is
known for being smooth, reliable, and capable of lifting heavy vehicles with minimal effort.

Features of Hydraulic Car Lifts

High Load Capacity: Can lift cars, SUVs, and light commercial vehicles.
Smooth Operation: Fluid-based mechanics provide consistent and controlled movement.

1.3 Wheel Balancer

A wheel balancer is a crucial machine used in automotive workshops to ensure that the
weight of a vehicle’s wheel is evenly distributed around its axis. Balanced wheels are essential
for smooth driving, as imbalanced wheels can cause vibrations, uneven tire wear, poor fuel
efficiency, and compromised safety. The process of wheel balancing involves identifying areas
where additional weight is needed and attaching small balancing weights to the rim to correct
the imbalance.

Fig 3.9 Wheel Balancer Fig 3.10 Wheel Balancer

How a Wheel Balancer Works

Mounting the Wheel: The tire and wheel assembly is mounted on the wheel balancer.
Spinning the Wheel: The machine rotates the wheel to detect any imbalance by measuring
vibrations or weight differences.
Displaying Imbalance: It calculates and displays the exact areas where weights are needed.
Adding Weights: Technicians attach small lead or steel weights to the wheel rim to correct the
imbalance.
Rechecking Balance: The wheel is spun again to ensure it is properly balanced.
1.4 Tyre Alignment (Wheel Alignment)

Tyre alignment or wheel alignment is the process of adjusting the angles of a vehicle's wheels
to ensure they are perfectly aligned with the manufacturer's specifications. Proper alignment
ensures that the wheels point in the right direction and work in unison, providing a smooth
driving experience, improved fuel efficiency, and reduced tire wear. Misaligned wheels can
result in uneven tire wear, poor handling, and increased fuel consumption, making routine
alignment checks a vital part of vehicle maintenance.

Fig 3.11 wheel alignment Fig 3.12 wheel alignment

Key Angles in Tyre Alignment

Camber:
The tilt of the wheel, either inward (negative camber) or outward (positive camber).
Incorrect camber causes uneven tire wear on the inner or outer edges.

Caster:
