3. Torque Wrench

Figure 17

A torque wrench is a tool used to precisely apply a specific torque to

a fastener such as a nut or bolt. It is usually in the form of a socket wrench with
special internal mechanisms. It was invented by Conrad Bahr in 1918 while
working for the New York City Water Department. It was designed to prevent over
tightening bolts on water main and steam pipe repairs underground. A torque
wrench is used where the tightness of screws and bolts is crucial. It allows the
operator to measure the torque applied to the fastener so it can be matched to
the specifications for a particular application. This permits proper tension.
and loading of all parts. A torque wrench measures torque as a proxy for bolt
tension. The technique suffers from inaccuracy due to inconsistent or
uncelebrated friction between the fastener and its mating hole. Measuring bolt
tension (bolt stretch) is more accurate but often torque is the only practical means
of measurement.

4. Rachet Spanner

Figure 18

28
3.2 Powered tools

1. Pneumatic Gun

Figure 19

A pneumatic bolt-tightening gun is air-powered tool or pneumatic powered tool is

one type of power tools, driven by compressed air, supplied by an air compressor,
one type of gas compressors. It can be also driven by compressed carbon dioxide
(CO2) stored in small cylinders allowing for portability. Pneumatic tools are safer to
run and maintain than their electric power tool counterparts, as well as having a
higher power-to-weight ratio, allowing a smaller, lighter tool to accomplish the
same task. This tool easy to use for bolt tightening by using any type of box
spanner.

29
2. Paint Gun

Figure 20

Specific Use: This process occurs when paint is applied to an object through the
use of an air-pressurized spray gun. The air gun has a nozzle, paint basin, and air
compressor When the trigger is pressed the paint mixes with the compressed air
stream and is released in a fine spray.

PROBLEM: Suspension damaged
• Front right suspension strut of range rover velar was damaged.
• The damage was caused due to driving under bad road conditions at
higher speeds.
• Oil leakage was seen at the front strut of the suspension.
• The spring was not damaged so it was used on new strut.
• Special tool was used to uninstall the spring from damaged strut and
further installing it onto new strut.

Damage caused due to suspension strut impairment:

• The suspension’s front strut was damaged and was leaking oil.
• Due to this it producing noise while driving on bumpy roads.
• The lower mount of strut was damaged.
• The vehicle was not working efficiently.
• The handling of the car was also decreased.
• Braking time vibration was also generated.

SOLUTION: Shock absorber replacement

• The special tool was attached to the damaged strut and the coil spring
was compressed pneumatically.
• The damaged strut was removed from coil spring and new strut was
installed.
• The coil spring was decompressed onto new strut again by pneumatic
process.
• As shown in image (b) the suspension was installed into the
suspension assembly.
• Upper and lower strut mount were installed.
• A 15km road test was carried out and it was found that the vehicle
was good to go.

33
2. Land Rover Discovery turbocharger damaged

Figure 24

PROBLEM: Faulty turbocharger

• The damage was caused due to manufacturing defect in turbocharger.
• The damage was also caused due to failure of lubrication system
• Turbo was also leaking oil

Damage caused to other parts

• The oil leakage caused engine to get covered in oil
• Engine overheating
• Loud noise from hood
• Poor engine performance
• Cables near turbo damaged

SOLUTION: Turbocharger replacement

• damaged turbocharger was removed
• Lubrication lines were replaced

34

Solution:
To begin with, of all make beyond any doubt that the quality of utilizing materials
in fabricating is nice. After planning items check them appropriately and confirmed
it with the office chief. After that talk about that plan with fabricating office
individuals. Amid the fabricating of items take after the standard and routinely
check the fabricating preparation. Store the pointless materials and items in right
put. Categorized & put a few devices and equipment according to their utilization
