It is with the deepest pride and greatest pleasure
that Scottish High International school presents
the fourth edition of SHISFEST.

This event aims to bring together academically


meritorious students by giving them the
opportunity to excel in competitions in the fields
of Art, Languages, Economics, Social Sciences
and many more.

Creativity, research and innovation are the


essential values of SHISFEST, which provides all
students with a platform to gain new skills and
display their talents.

We extend a cordial invitation to the students of


your eminent institutions to participate in the
event, which will be held on Saturday, 9th
November 2024.

Sushant Lok 2, Sector 57, Gurugram, Haryana 122011.

REPORTING TIME: 8:00 a.m

NOTE: The event is free of cost for all participating


Institutions. Transportation and lodging have to be
arranged by the participating schools.

DRESS CODE:
1) Proper school uniform.
2) Different attire may only be worn if explicitly specified
by the competition rules.
3) I-card has to be worn at all times in the school
premises.
Awards
The closing ceremony for SHISFEST'24 will be
held on 9th November 2024. It will reveal the
winners of all the competitions enabling the
students to go home with titles
they will be immensely proud of.

Not only do students go home with awards but


also have a chance to win something much bigger: an
Overall Winner Trophy. The school that wins the
maximum amount of competitions will be entitled for
the same. It will be informed through the website and
personally to the winning school.

Note: Scottish High School students are allowed to


take part in all competitions but the students are
not eligible for the School Trophy.

The competition aims at providing a platform for the
participants to exhibit their knowledge in the subject
beyond their textbooks and academic syllabi. It is a
quick and fun way of testing an individual’s literary and
language-based skills and aiding in inculcating team
spirit amongst the participants.

Eligible Grades: IX-XII


Rules: -
A team of 3 students from each school.
Selection round will have MCQs on the syllabus
given below. It will be a pen and paper test.
Top five schools will go to the final round
There would be total five rounds.

Syllabus - Questions will be based on Shakespeare and


his writings, Contemporary Indian writers in English
and their writings, Vocabulary, Proverbs and Idioms
and Phrases.
Any unfair means used will disqualify the team from the
competition.
ROUND-1 (Shakespeare and his writings)
Each team will be asked 2 questions
Time Limit to answer – 20 seconds per question
Marks Allotted – 10 Marks for correct answer/ n0 for
wrong answer

ROUND-2 (Contemporary Indian writers in English


and their writings)
Each team will be asked 2 questions. Time Limit to
answer – 20 seconds per question. Marks Allotted – 10
Marks for correct answer/ 0 for wrong answer

ROUND-3 (Complete the Proverb)


Each team will be asked 2 questions. Time Limit to
answer – 20 seconds per question. Marks Allotted – 10
Marks for correct answer/ 0 for wrong answer

ROUND-4 (Guess the Idiom)


Pictorial representations of idioms will be shown to the
participants, and they’ll have to guess the idiom. Each
team will be asked 2 questions Time Limit to answer –
20 seconds per question Marks Allotted – 10 Marks for
correct answer/ 0 for wrong answer
ROUND-5 (Taboo)
Cue cards with the word to be guessed and the list
of taboo words will be given to one of the members
of the team. The other two members will guess the
word based on the hints provided by the 1st
member.
Each team will guess 2 words
Time Limit to answer - 60 seconds per word
Marks Allotted – 10 Marks for correct answer/ 0 for
wrong answer

प्रतिभागिता : इस प्रतियोगिता में प्रत्येक विद्यालय से कक्षा 6 से 8 तक


के दो विद्यार्थियों का एक दल भाग ले सकता है।

नियमावली:
प्रत्येक सही उत्तर के लिए 2 अंक निर्धारित हैं।
उत्तर देने के लिए प्रतिभागी दल के पास 20 सैके ण्ड का समय
होगा।
कोई एक चरण दृश्य -श्रव्य साधनो पर आधारित होगा।

Progress,’ offering students a platform to exhibit their
creative concepts, apply their knowledge, and foster their
curiosity within the realm of innovative scientific ideas.

The Science Department at Scottish High International


School cordially invites other educational institutions to
partake in the esteemed SHISFEST, a remarkable event
aimed at fostering cultural diversity and promoting a
deeper understanding of the world through "Pioneers of
Progress," offering students a platform to exhibit their
creative concepts, apply their knowledge, and foster their
curiosity within the realm of innovative scientific ideas.

GUIDELINES AND CONDITIONS:

Educational Emphasis / Areas of reference:


In this competition, students can showcase their
innovative ideas related to science and technology
which can solve real world problem.
Identify the areas in science that you are more
interested in. Some popular areas in science include
physics, chemistry, astronomy, biology, etc. By
leveraging the strengths of these varied scientific
domains, you have the potential to devise
groundbreaking solutions that play a vital role in
addressing substantial challenges in climate change
and environmental sustainability, public health and
pandemic, space exploration and astrophysics, water
scarcity and quality, agriculture, STEM education, etc.

When you choose a topic from the area that you are
passionate about then your enthusiasm will fuel your
efforts and make the project more enjoyable.

RULES:
Each team will be represented by two participants.
Participants will be asked to explain their ideas to
judges through a model/experiment/activity and a
PPT presentation.
Presentation should be in the form of a visual display
and a brief oral explanation of the topic.
Participants are required to deliver their presentations
within a specified time frame 3–5-minute (maximum 5
minutes).
Participant must dress up in proper school uniform.
Participants must provide a clear demonstration and
groundbreaking of their ideas to foster innovation.
EVALUATION CRITERIA:
Judges will evaluate each category on a scale of 10
points.
Presentation skills-participant's ability to
effectively communicate their ideas.
Assessment of the uniqueness and creativity of the
idea or solution presented.
Feasibility and application of idea.
Participant's ability to think critically, approach
problems creatively, and demonstrate a deep
understanding of the topic.
Judges round of questioning based on the topic.

Showcase your expertise and passion for research. Here
students have the opportunity to showcase their latest
research findings/ case study through a scientific poster
presentation. Students are encouraged to present research
work based on primary and secondary sources-
dissertation, senior project, internship or lab experiences.
This activity is designed to enhance research and
communication skills, foster visual communication
abilities, collaboration among peers, gaining confidence
and encourage further academic and career pursuits,
preparing them for future success.

form of graphs, tables or diagrams based on the
experiments carried out on the theme related to the
topic.
It should be an original work and not plagiarized/
copied from any other source.

Competition Overview:
Save-A-Biz offers students of Grades XI and XII a chance
to critically analyze why businesses fail, propose solutions
to rectify these issues, and develop actionable strategies
for real-world business challenges. This competition
allows participants to showcase their entrepreneurial and
critical thinking skills by identifying what failing
companies could have done differently and proposing
creative and practical remedies. Finalists will pitch their
ideas to a panel of judges.

Eligibility:
• Grade: XI and XII
• Team Size: 2 students per school

The Competition will be held in two rounds:


Round 1: Online Submissions

Choose a failed business from the given list and create


a PowerPoint presentation covering:
• Overview of the business
• Identification of the causes of company's failure.
• Industry analysis (competition and target market)
• Development of a novel and practical action plan based
on financial feasibility.

Round 2: Shortlisting and Final Presentations:


10 presentations will be shortlisted from the received
submissions. The selected teams will present their ideas to a
panel of judges offline, on the day of the event i.e. 9th
November 2024.

Shortlisted teams will be informed via mail from the


SHISFEST organising team by 28th October 2024.

Judgment Criteria for FINAL PRESENTATION:

Issue Identification: Effectiveness in identifying the root


causes of the company's failure.

Originality and Creativity: Uniqueness and


innovativeness of the proposed solutions.

Financial Feasibility: Practicality of implementing the


solutions based on the company's resources and financing
plans.

Presentation: Overall effectiveness of the pitch,


including teamwork and smooth coordination.

Q&A Performance: Ability to respond to judges'


questions and concerns
Please Note: Each criteria carries 10 marks.

Important Points to Note:


No team shall be allowed to make any changes to the PPT once
submitted. Each team will get 8 minutes to present their
slides.
Participants will receive an alert at 7 minutes and then a long
bell at the end of 8th minute. The Presenters shall not be
allowed to continue after 8 minutes. The pitch will be followed
by a Q&A session with the judges.

It’s our great pleasure to announce the upcoming INTER-


SCHOOL MATHEMATICS QUIZ – Complexity & Precision
for Grades X, XI and XII. Complexity and Precision is a
prestigious contest that challenges students to apply
mathematical tools and concepts to real-world problems,
thus helping students’ ability to access, assess, adopt, and
apply knowledge, to think independently to exercise
appropriate judgement and to collaborate with others to
make sense of new situations in order to become a
globalized citizen.

Eligible Grades: Grades X, XI and XII.


Number of Participants/Team: Three students, one
from each grade X, XI and XII.

Rules & Regulations:


The competition will be held on Saturday, November
9th, 2024.
Each school is allowed to send only one team.
There will be two rounds in the quiz
~Preliminary round: Complexity
~Final round: Precision Mathematics Quiz.
Preliminary round: Complexity will be a pen-paper-
based test.

The top 5 preliminary round teams would qualify for


the final round, Precision Mathematics Quiz.
The final round, Precision Mathematics Quiz will be a
live interactive quiz, where in top five teams would
compete for the winner title.
No electronic gadgets or equipment is allowed during
both rounds.
Any kind of written or printed material is not allowed.
Any team found using unfair means shall be
immediately disqualified.
The Rules & Regulations of Precision Round will be
conveyed only to the qualified team.

“Great leaders, Great speeches - Words that changed
the World”

Words can spark a revolution, reform society and create an


ideal future. Inevitably words outlive their speaker, so at
Scottish High International School, we would like to relive
these speeches that are etched forever in our hearts.

Speech oration Competition

Participants will select a Historical or Political speech


given by Historical or Political leaders from the 19th to
21st Century. These leaders can be National or
International. Participants must orate historical or
revolutionary speech delivered by their chosen leader and
not a biography of the leader.

Eligibility
SUB-JUNIOR CATEGORY: IV - V
JUNIOR CATEGORY: VI - VIII

No. of Participants: 1
Time: 3 mins.

Rules:
Participants will announce the name of their chosen
leader and where and on what occasion the selected
speech was given.
Hand Gestures are welcomed along with voice
modulation as appropriate.

Students should emulate their chosen leader as much


as possible. Props can be used. Students may dress up
as their chosen leader.

Speech can be delivered in English or Hindi as per the


choice of the participant.

A speech less than 2 min 30 seconds will invite a


deduction of two marks from the total marks.

Participants found using any unfair means ( reading


from paper) will be disqualified.

Judge’s decision will be final.

1. Relevance to the topic and content- 10 marks

The students will be reciting a poem in the respective target
language on the given theme. This will enable the students to
enhance their approach towards sound and clarification in
pronunciation of target words and recitation of a poem.

Rules:
The student will choose a poem on the given theme and will
select the poem and recite the same on the day of the event.

Judgment criteria:
The students will be judged upon the choice of poem based
on the theme. They will be judged upon the pronunciation
skills of the target language.

A solo singing competition to provide all participants with a
memorable experience on stage to showcase their talents,
not only as a singer but also as a performer.

Eligible Grades: Grade IX to XI

school
Time Limit: 3 to 4 mins
Judgement Criteria:
Pitching-5 Marks
Rhythm (timing) and Coordination-5 Marks

Rules and Regulations:


The language of songs for the competition to be only in
English.
Each participant will carry their own karaoke / backing
track on a pen drive. The same is also to be mailed at
shivams@scottishigh.com by 6th November’24.
Participants can also accompany themselves with live
music or any instrument (guitar or keyboard only) if they
know how to play. However, no extra points will be
rewarded for the same.
The selected songs should not contain any
derogatory lyrics.
There will be a negative marking of 2 marks for
interruptions during the performance and half a mark
will be deducted on exceeding every 30 seconds from
the total time limit of the participant.

Tamasha
Street play is one of the oldest theatre forms where the
artists enact in public places with no specific target audience.
It is a genre of drama performed with music and dance which
is known for its simplicity and creative execution. It serves as
a metaphor that captures an image of moral nature which
every layman can relate to. It is also known as “Nukkad
Natak.”

A street play is known for its catchy dialogues, attractive


slogans and powerful dramatic elements like tragedy,
humour, mimicry etc. The primary goal of a street play is
taking a social message to a large group of people, helping
create a sense of awareness in the society we live in. Every
street play has a specific public social theme and the actor
who performs should possess the skill to exhibit and portrays
the theme well. The dialogues are colloquial and should be
rendered monotonously with a clear and loud voice. This
kind of recitation in high pitch will leave a huge impact in
the minds of people.

Number of participants: A group of 8 to 10 students.

RULES AND REGULATIONS:


Theme: Our Planet Our Responsibility
Time limit: 10 minutes, negative marking of 1 Mark
will be done for not meeting the time frame.
Students have to perform a street play which can be
self-written or an adaptation of already written play
on the given Topic.
Negative marking will be done for crossing the
minimum and maximum time frame of (9 to 10
minutes)
Use of properties is allowed but to be managed by the

The street play should have a jingle/ opening song and
use of music instruments as a prop is allowed.
Script should not be derogatory for any cast, religion,
or gender or it will be disqualified.
Judges decision will be final.

What A Color! facilitates its participants to communicate
what they see, feel and think through colour, texture, form,
pattern and different materials and processes? Art stimulates
creativity and imagination. It provides visual and tactile
experiences, a unique way of understanding and responding
to the world. They explore ideas and meanings through their
imaginations. Through learning about the roles and
functions of art, they can explore the impact it has had on
contemporary life and that of different times and cultures.

Eligible Grades:
SUB-JUNIOR CATEGORY: IV - V

category.

Originality & Creativity: 10 marks.
Interpretation and Clarity: 10 marks.

Rules and Regulations:
The theme is as follows:
Sub Junior ( IV-V) : A Day in the Future
Junior ( VI-VIII) : Any 1 SDG ( Poster Making)
An A3 size sheet will be provided by the school.
Any medium like acrylic paints, oil paints, charcoal,
water colours, etc. can be used. Students must carry
their own materials.
The use of unfair means via plagiarism will disqualify
the participant.
In case of a tie, it will be left to the discretion of the
judges to decide on a winner.
The decision of the judges will be final and binding to
all participants.
The participant's name, class, and school name must
be neatly mentioned on the back side of the artwork.
Preparation time: 1 hour 30 mins to create the
artwork.

Note: 5 minutes will be provided to submit the artwork


with a pre-written explanation of the concept of the
drawing.

Installation
This exciting event invites students from Grades 9-12 to
explore their creativity and environmental consciousness by
transforming waste materials into captivating art pieces. By
participating, you will not only showcase your artistic skills
but also contribute to raising awareness about sustainability
and the innovative reuse of materials. This competition aims
to celebrate the intersection of art and environmental
stewardship, encouraging students to think creatively about
how they can make a positive impact on the world.

Eligible Grades: Grade IX to XII


Number of participants: A team of 3 students.
Duration to assemble the art installation: 1 hour 30
minutes to assemble the installation together and fine-
tuning to ensure that installation meets all the desired
artistic and functional goals.

Judging Criteria:
Creativity and Originality: 30 marks
How unique and imaginative is the use of waste
materials? Does the installation offer a fresh perspective
on waste regeneration/restoration?
Aesthetic Appeal: 20 marks
How visually engaging and artistic is the installation?
Does it effectively use colors, shapes, and forms?
Use of Materials: 20 marks
How effectively are recycled materials utilized in the
project? Is there thoughtful integration of various
types of waste materials?

Message and Impact: 20marks


How well does the installation convey its intended
message about waste restoration and sustainability?
Does it inspire or provoke thought?

Technical Execution: 10marks


How well is the installation constructed? Is it stable,
well-crafted, and free from safety hazards?

Competition Rules:

1. Material:
Projects must use at least 50% recycled or repurposed
materials. Acceptable materials include plastics, metals,
paper, textiles, and other waste items. Teams may use
non-recycled materials if necessary for structural
integrity, but these should be kept to a minimum.

2. Project Specifications:
The art installation must be portable and designed to fit
within a 5( Height) x3( Width) feet area. Installations
must be safe and not pose any hazards to viewers or
participants.
3. Submission:
Teams must submit a pre written brief description (up to 500
words) explaining the concept, materials used, and the
message or theme of the installation. The concept note should
be mailed a week prior at amitag@scottishigh.com

4. Presentation:
Teams may be required to present their projects to a panel
of judges on the day of the competition.
Presentations should include an explanation of the
project’s theme, materials used, and the creative process. 3
minutes will be given to present before the judges.

5. Safety and Environmental Impact:


The installation must not use materials that could be
hazardous or environmentally harmful.
Teams must ensure that their projects are
environmentally friendly, both in the materials used and
the overall impact of the installation.

6. Judging Process:
A panel of judges will evaluate the installations based on
the criteria above. The decision of the judges will be final
and binding on all contestants.
