will be divided to handle both at the same
time

- Debate for grade 7 during a lesson

during a single lesson, to be done in
homerooms/classrooms.

Hello everyone!

Warm greetings from the event coordinators team 23-24, we’ve been given the role of planning events
for middle school so that we can have a fun time through MYP! This year, we’ve decided to organize a
sequel to an event founded by the event coordinators team 22-23, “Lights, Camera, Toontassy!”. The
event planned for you all is especially for the actors, artists, and the bookworms we have amongst us, so
keep reading to find out more!

Ladies and gentlemen, we present to you “LIGHTS CAMERA TOONTASSY: TAKE 2”.
The event originally consisted of 4 activities, however, there is another activity coming up as an addition
to “Lights Camera Toontassy… TAKE 2”

The event revolves around the themes of literature, specifically fantasy and cartoon, to make the event
more interesting and challenging, we’ve chosen 3 pieces of literature for each grade that all activities
will be based around.

Grade 6:

● Book - Percy Jackson (open ended)


● Song - Lost boy- Ruth B
● Movie - Harry Potter

Grade 7:

● Book - Jane, The Fox, And Me


● Movie - Indiana Jones and The Raiders Of The Lost Ark
● Song - Runaway- Aurora

The activities are:

● Poetry recitation (only for grade 7)


● Character come alive (drama role play) (only for grade 6)
● Debate (For both grades 6 & 7)
● Short story writing (For both grades 6 & 7)

Remember…This is an inter-section competition, all of you will be representing your classes so make
sure to participate!

Grade 6:

Grade 6 will have 8-11 people representing the sections. 3 people from short story writing, 3 people
from debate and 2-5 people from the character come-alive.

Character come-alive:

● Through this activity, we are aiming to build creativity, team-building skills and coordination.
● Participants will be choosing a scene from the given books or movies (they could also be
creative and choose to recreate a picture shown in one of the songs) and recreate it (add a
twist).
● Time limit: 3-5 minutes
● For grade 7

Debate:

- 3 speakers from each section (First speaker, second speaker, & third speaker)
- Sections will be divided into 3 different rooms (A vs B, C vs D, E vs F) and given 3 different
motions.
- Through a coin toss, teams get to decide if they want to be opposition or proposition
- 15 minutes for preparation; each speech has to be 2-4 minutes long
- Motions will either be based on the given book or movie (to be revealed on the day of the event)

Short story writing:

● Participation is compulsory for all students.


● Students will be provided with 3 prompts related to the books/movies/songs mentioned, and
are expected to write a short story on one of the prompts.
● Every participant will be given 50 minutes to write their story (300-500 words long)
● From each section, 3 of the best entries will be shortlisted for the final round of judging.
● The participants can add illustrations if they want as well.

Grade 7:

Grade 7 will have 8 people representing each section.

- 2 participants for poetry recitation


- 3 participants for team debate
- 3 participants for story writing

Poetry recitation:

● This activity will focus on the participants’ speaking skills, memory, clarity, hand gestures,
performance and emotion. One of the main criteria for the event will be how well the
participants can display their emotions.
● Participants are supposed to compose ORIGINAL slam poetry/spoken poetry (inspired by a
fantasy storyline or a cartoon)
● Participants can perform in solos or duets, the time limit for performance is 3 minutes.
● The participants will be judged based on perspective, creativity, depth, body language, and
engagement.
● Prompts will be revealed closer to the date.

Debate:

- 3 speakers from each section (First speaker, second speaker, & third speaker)
- All three debates (A vs B; C vs D; E vs F) will happen in the cafeteria one by one and they will
given different motions.
- Through a coin toss, teams get to decide if they want to be opposition or proposition
- 15 minutes for preparation; each speech has to be 2-4 minutes long
