METHODOLOGY
The teaching strategies centered around the presentation of this course include lecture,
discussion, explanation and demonstration. Concepts will be explained and demonstrated
with series of working examples followed by working exercises, assignments, quizzes and
tests.
Course Description
This course is designed to improve the prospective teacher’s problem-solving abilities in
Mathematics beyond the high school level. The contents dealt within this course are
indicated in the section ‘Course Contents’.
Course Policies
Attendance- All students are expected to be in class at all time. Students being absent from
school for five class times without genuine excuse(s) shall be given a grade of ‘DR’ at the
end of the semester even if the students did the midterm or final exam.
Testing- All tests shall be announced at least one week before it is administered. If in any
case there is a conflict of time that you cannot write the test on the scheduled time, discuss
with the course instructor before the test administration. One test shall be administered
before the midterm and another before the final exam. Being absent from class does not
excuse you from any written examination such as quiz, class work, assignment and test.
Quizzes/Assignments- Quiz shall be given anytime during the course of the semester. It
can be either announced or unannounced and may only cover current or previous topics
covered. Automatically there is no make-up for class work, assignment, quiz and test.
Assignment shall be given anytime to reinforce the lesson during the course of the
semester.
Class Participation- The marks for the participation shall be distributed to the number of
activities done within the semester except for final exam and midterm.

Evaluation
The extent to which the above objectives are met will be determined by the learner’s ability
to perform the tasks as indicated under ‘Basic Tasks Requirements’.
