Radio and Carooning Mechanics
GENERAL GUIDELINES:
1. This will be competed between grade 7 and Grade 8 students with seven members. Each
members will have the following roles:
Anchor 1
Leads the program, sets the tone, and ensures smooth transitions between
segments.
Anchor 2
Supports Anchor 1 by managing secondary segments, providing additional
commentary, and engaging with listeners.
Local Presenter
Delivers news and updates specific to the local community or region.
International Presenter
Shares global news, events, and trends with the audience.
Sports Presenter
Provides updates, analysis, and commentary on sports events and news.
Showbiz Presenter
Covers entertainment news, celebrity updates, and showbiz gossip.
Technical Director
Manages all technical aspects, including sound quality, equipment operation,
and troubleshooting during broadcasts. (use 1 laptop and download the
virtual DJ application)
2. The actual presentation should be composed of the following:
1. LOCAL NEWS
2. INTERNATIONAL NEWS
3. SPORTS NEWS
4. SHOWBIZ NEWS
5. INFOMERCIAL (NOT EXCEED 1 MINUTE)
NOTE: YOU CAN HAVE YOUR OWN ARRANGEMENT OF THE GIVEN NEWS. MAKE USE
OF TIME AND RELEVANT NEWS. News articles should not be more than 70 words.
3. On January 13, 2024 (Monday) Representatives will be having a meeting for the
orientation of the radio broadcasting production. During the meeting, each group should
have 1 laptop and have downloaded the VIRTUALDJ APPLICATION.
4. Each group should have their own station ID and Script (sample scripts will be given)
5. Script should be:
i. Encoded using Arial font size 12
ii. With directorial instructions in capital letter
iii. Double-spaced with normal margin (1 inch on all sides)
iv. Printed in A4-sized bond paper
6. Before the day of the Contest, each team should provide 3 copies of the script made for
Judging. Then, submit the Script to the Assigned Facilitator.
Broadcast Simulation
7. Each team shall be given 9 minutes: 3 minutes for entrance and preparations, 5 minutes
for actual broadcast, and 1 minute for the exit.
8. A yellow flaglet shall be raised to signal the team that they have 1 minute left for
preparation. A green flaglet shall then be raised to signal the team to start. A yellow flaglet
shall be raised again to warn the team that they only have one minute remaining followed
by a red flaglet to indicate that their time is up.
9. The presentation will be good for 5 minutes. The group with the five-minute production
receives a perfect score under time allotment/timeliness. Deductions for overtime or
undertime will be applied as follows:
1 Second- 3 seconds = 1 point
4 seconds- 20 seconds = 2 points
21 seconds- 40 seconds = 3 points
41 seconds-60 seconds = 4 points
61 seconds and above = 5 points
10.The undertime and overtime shall be deducted from the final average score.

EDITORIAL CARTOONING
Mechanics:
1. Eligibility: This will be participated by the students from grade 7-12. One representative
for each level. It will be competed by bracket:
Bracket 1: 7 & 8
Bracket 2: 9 & 10
Bracket 3: 11 & 12
2. Theme: Participants will base their cartoons on a given theme announced on the day of
the contest.
3. Originality: All entries must be original and created on-site during the contest.
4. Medium: Participants should use a pencil (Mongol 2). Digital tools or pre-drawn materials
are not allowed.
5. Size: Cartoons must be drawn on standard-sized paper provided by the organizers.
6. Content: Cartoons must align with the theme and avoid offensive or inappropriate
content.
7. Time Limit: Participants will have 1 hour to complete their entries.

FORM AND STYLE(30%) SCORE
Makes use of a minimum number of labels
Shows logical use of various sizes, dimensions, and proportions of image
Displays attractive use of shading and other techniques
Utilizes witty, original, and creative representation of ideas/concepts on
the issue given.
Content (60%)
Presents clear, specific, and a recognizable point-of-view or opinion on the
given issue or topic.
Raises relevant, timely issues and concerns about the topic
Is in good taste and free from libelous, indecent, and abstract ideas
Arouses interest and analytical thinking among its readers
Constructively criticizes and influences readers’ opinion
Ethics (10%)
Showcases original works of students.
Properly cites information and attributes these facts from the source of
information (cut across all events)
Observes standards of journalism in terms of fairness, relevance,
accuracy, and balance.
Has no potentially libelous or obscene content, plagiarism and copyright
violations
