A plane figure bounded by three straight
line segments is called a triangle
The adjoining figure shows a triangle ABC whose
1) Vertices are A,B and C 2) Sides are AB,BC and AC Some important terms • Median of a triangle , corresponding to any side , is the line joining the mid point of that side with the opposite vertex • Centroid point of intersection of the medians .
Altitude- an altitude of a triangle , corresponding to any
side , is the length of the perpendicular drawn from the Opposite vertex to that side Congurency • Two triangles are said to be congruent to each other, if on placing on over the other , they exactly collide. • The given figure shows two triangles ABC and DEF such that 1)<A = < D; <B = <E and <C =<F 2) AB = DE; BC = EF and AC = DF
ABC congruent to DEF
Conditions for congruency of triangles • S.A.S – side angle side If two sides and the included angle of one triangle are equal to two sides and the included angle of the other triangle , the triangle is congruent. • A.S.A –angle side angle if two angles and the included side of one triangle are equal to two angles and the included side of the other triangle the triangle is knowns as congruent by A.S.A A.A.S – angle angle side If two angles and one side of one triangle are equal to two angles and the corresponding side of the other triangle, the triangles are congruent s S.S.S – side side side If three sides of one triangle are equal to three sides of the other triangle, each to each
