1 Introduction
MOSFET used in this circuit is IRFZ44N which is an n-channel E-MOSFET. A
coupling capacitor whose purpose is to block DC and only allow AC audio signals to
pass a resistor used for biasing and to control current. Audio jack is used to take input in
form of sound signals and for output a 4 ohm speaker is used to receive sound signals. A
DC source is provided and voltage is applied to gate terminal. By controlling gate
voltage, it results in audio amplification.
1.1 Objectives
Main objective of this project is to get familiar with use of MOSFET as it is
commonly used in electronics and how we can use it in amplification purposes. Also
learn about its working principle and construction.
2 Literature Survey
Selecting a proper speaker for this output is very important step while
selecting a speaker we need to check some factors i.e
1) The power handling capacity of the speaker should be suitable for the amplifier's
power output.
2) The speaker's impedance should match or be within the acceptable range specified
by the amplifier. The most common speaker impedance values are 4 ohms, 8, and
16 ohms.
3) Speaker sensitivity indicates how loud the speaker will be at a given power level.
1
4) Choose a speaker size and form factor that suits your application and installation
requirements.

4.1 Design / simulation parameters
Circuit is implemented on breadboard. A 4volt DC supply is used to
power the circuit. Coupling capacitor used is 22uF and resistor is 3.3
kohm. Speaker used is of 4 ohm.
4.2 Discussions
IRFZ44N MOSFET is a power MOSFET that can handle high
voltages but exact voltage needed will vary based on an amplifier
design and power requirements of connected speaker. For small
audio amplifier voltage supply up to 12v. This is a simple amplifier
circuit audio received at the end is not very clear and it has some
noise for clearing out noise we can use more RC filters and for
higher amplification of sound such as sounds received in stereos we
can increase number of MOSFETS used and replace speaker with a
high power wattage speaker.
5 Conclusions
Audio amplifiers are commonly used in car audio systems, musical
instruments, microphones, recording studios, telecommunications, public
address system etc.
