1 Introduction ———————————— In the operation of the graphics system by user, a variety of activities take place, which can be divided into three categories: + Interact with the graphics terminal to create and alter images on the screen. + Construct a model of something physical out of the image on the screen. + Enter the model into computer memory and/or secondary storage. In working with the graphics system the user performs these various activities in combination rather than sequentially. The graphics software can be divided into there modules: + The graphics package. + The application program. + The application database. ‘The central module is the application program. It controls the storage of data into and retrieves data out of the application database. The application program is driven by the user through the graphic package, The application program is implemented by the user to construct the model of a physical entity whose image is to be viewed on the graphics screen. Application programs are written for particular problem areas like architecture, construction, mechanical components etc. Phere are several reasons for implementing a computer-aided design system few of them are listed below: * To increase the prot of the designer: This is made possible by helping the designer to see the product and its component. + To improve the quulity of design: A CAD enginocring analysis and a larger number of des Design errors ure also reduced. + To improve communication: By using A CAD system the various benefits are achieved like better engineering drawings, more standardization in the drawings, better documentation of the design, fewer drawing errors, and greater legibility. + Tocreste a database for manufacturing: In the process of creating the documentation for the product design (geometries and dimensions of the product and its components, materia} specification for components, bill of material, etc.) much of the required database to manufacture the product is also created. tem permits a more thorough ign alternatives can be investigated. 1 >! 2 Awecay Requirements of Graphics Software 1. The graphics software should be easy to use- 2. The package should operate in a consistent and predictable way to the use, 3, (There should be no incanvenient omissions in the eet of eraPhios fancting, 4. The graphics system should be tolerant of minor instances of misuse by y, operator. 5. Graphics programs should be efficient and speed of response should be fast ang consistent. rams should not be so large or expensive as to make their Use 6. Graphics prog prohibitive. The software “AutoCAD” requirements. developed by AutoDesk fulfills all the above liste System Requirements The first task you need to complete is to make sure that your computer meels the minimum system requirements. If your system does not meet these requirements, problems can occur, both within AutoCAD and at the operating system level. Operating systems: Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7 or 8 Processor: Intel Pentium, Dual core processor GB RAM or greater 02.4 x 768 with true color, Direct 3 D capable work station class Memory Display resolution: 1¢ graphics card Hard disk- installation 1GB or greater Pointing device» MS-Mouse compli Input Device AutoCAD accepts keyboard input for all commands. Since it is a slower method, as most users may not be typists so mouse has become more popular. The mouse has two or three buttons. Left button is the pick or click button. This is used for selection purposes. The button on the right is enter or return button. The middle button is for “pan” command ‘The digitizing tablet is device that acts as a menu for selecting commands and has # pointing device similar to a mouse. The pointing device in the tablet is referred to 9 a puck, The most common device has four buttons on the puck. The pen is a device similar to a fountain pen. It mostly has only one button on the tube that act as enter key. You press the tip of i igitizi tell y ss p of the pen into digitizing tablet to AutoCAD to draw figure. , ae Installing AutoCAD Place the disk in the CD-ROM drive. If the CD does not auto run then click on the setup file and proceed accordingly by replying to the asked requirements.
