Velocity and acceleration

Speed and velocity both dictate how fast an object is moving and are both measured in m/
s, km/h, or mph.

Di erences between speed and velocity:

• Speed is simply how fast you are moving, it is a scalar quantity (only magnitude,
not direction).
• Velocity has a direction along with a magnitude, making it a vector quantity (both
magnitude and direction)

-For any object, the distance moved, (average) speed, and time taken are
related by an equation.
V Distance moved s
Average speed
Time taken t

-Acceleration is how quickly the velocity of a body is changing.

• Acceleration is not the same as speed and velocity. It is the change in velocity of an
object.
• A change in velocity can be a change in speed or a change in direction; For example, the
velocity of a planet orbiting a star is always changing, whereas even though it is orbiting
at a constant speed, its direction is always changing as it orbits.
• The unit for acceleration is not m/s it is

Mass weight and gravity

gravity isthe force of attraction betweenall masses
on planets itmakes allthings accelerate towardsthe ground
it gives everything a weight
it keeps planets moons andsatellites in theirorbits the orbit is the
result of a balance betweenthe forward motion of the object and
gravity pulling it inwards
