World Book Day, also known as World Book and

Copyright Day or International Day of the Book, is
an annual event organized by the United Nations
Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization to
promote reading, publishing, and copyright.

Theme “Are You A Reader”

Originally on 23rd April 1995, it was declared by
UNESCO’s General Conference which was held
in Paris and after that, every year 23rd April has
been declared as World Book Day

As a part of the Day, UNESCO selects the World

Book Capital every year for a one-year period,
effective 23 April each year. The World Book
Capital for 2022 is Guadalajara ,Mexico.

English Language Day was first marked by the
United Nations' Department of Global
Communications in 2010
English Language Day is celebrated on 23 April
as it marks the occasion of William
Shakespeare’s birth anniversary as well as his
death anniversary.
Under the initiative, the duty stations of UN
celebrate six separate days and each day is Arabic (18 December)
dedicated to one of the Organisation's six Chinese (20 April)
official languages across the world. English (23 April)

The first state in the country to get an L-root server
Rajasthan has become the first state in the country to get L-root servers.
This server with uninterrupted internet connectivity will help the state
government to provide its flagship digital services and implement e-
governance. This will strengthen the Internet infrastructure in Rajasthan

The state will no longer rely on a root server for the domain name system. If
there is any problem in internet connectivity due to natural calamity or technical
disturbance in India or the entire continent of Asia, even the internet can be
accessed in Rajasthan without any interruption.

This new server has been installed in collaboration with the Internet Corporation
for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) at Bhamashah State Data Center,
Jaipur, Rajasthan.
• Now the high-speed internet connectivity in the
state will be ensured by this server. It will provide
benefits to the server industries as well as the
general public with better load management, and
lower round trip latency time between server and

new species of eel named ‘Ariosoma indicum’
from specimens collected from fishing harbours
in Kerala and West Bengal.

eels group.

National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources (ICAR-
NBFGR), Lucknow is working on fish genetic

Vehicles (EV) per year will become operational in 2023 and the
larger facility of 200 acres with a production capacity of

Launch of UPI in UAE
The international arm of the National Payment
Corporation of India, NPCI International
Payments Ltd (NIPL) has announced that across
the UAE, BHIM UPI is live on NEOPAY terminals.

• This initiative will be empowering the millions of

Indians who travel to the UAE to make payments
in a convenient and safe manner.
• The payments can be made using BHIM UPI
across the NEOPAY-enabled merchant stores and
shops.
• NEOPAY, Mashreq Bank’s payment subsidiary,
and NIPL partnered in 2021 to create the UPI
acceptance infrastructure in the country.
The NPCI developed the Unified Payment Interface (UPI)
which is an instant real-time payment system that helps in
facilitating inter-bank transactions.

• NIPL has been consistently working to make

digital payments simple by using the cutting-
edge solutions of the organization.

• In FY22, 45.6 billion UPI enabled transactions

worth USD 1 trillion were performed thus

Ajay Kumar Sood appointed as government's principal
scientific advisor
• Sood is a currently a member of the science, technology
and innovation advisory council to the prime minister.

• The appointment has been made for a period of three

years starting with immediate effect

• Sood would be succeeding K Vijay Raghavan, the former

director of National Centre for Biological Sciences, who
was serving as the PSA since March 2018. His tenure
concluded on April 2.
• Before Raghavan, the PSA charge was held by renowned
physicist R Chidambaram, who served in the role from
November 2001 to March 2018.

• He has served as the president of the Indian National Science

Academy and also as the secretary-general of The World
Academy of Sciences. In recognition of his scientific
contributions, he has been honoured with the Padma Shri
award by the government in 2013.

• National Civil Services Day saw Prime Minister
Narendra Modi award Bishnupur (Manipur) and
Churu (Rajasthan) districts for promoting excellence
in sports and wellness (through the Khelo India
scheme) in New Delhi.

• The winners of the award received a trophy, a scroll,

and an incentive of 20 lakh rupees for the
implementation of the programme and bridging
resource gaps in any area of public welfare.

• “Khelo India – National Programme for Development

of Sports” (Khelo India Scheme) is a flagship scheme
of the Government of India which aims at achieving
sporting excellence in the country.
• Indore collector gets Prime Minister's
Excellence Award for outstanding work in
public administration

• The award carries a trophy, citation and a

cash prize of Rs 10 lakh which can be spent
by the collector in public welfare works or
in works related to Swachh Bharat Mission.

started by the Central Government in the
year 2006 in the form of a scheme
Tamil Nadu Government to set up 4 Olympic
training academies
• The government of Tamil Nadu has decided to set up four Olympic
Training academies in the four zones of the state.
• As per the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, the state is taking all the
possible steps to set up a mega-sports city near Chennai for building
world-class sports facilities for various sports.
• The efforts by the State Government will ensure that Tamil Nadu
athletes win international sports and championships, including the
Olympics.

• The Chief Minister also informed that in all the state constituencies,
small stadiums are to be set up at a cost of Rs. 3 crores each.

Veteran Filmmaker T Rama Rao passes away at 84
• Filmmaker T Rama Rao, who is credited for making
successful films in Telugu and Hindi with veteran
actors such as N T Rama Rao, Amitabh Bachchan,
and Rajnikanth passed away in Chennai on April 20,
2022.
• T Rama Rao made Navaratri in Telugu with Savitri
and Akkineni Nageswara Rao in the lead roles way
back in 1966. His fantasy comedy film in 1977
‘Yamagola’ with legendary NTR was a blockbuster.
